Multiple Fatalities in Manchester

Guy was a fairly recent Libyan immigrant.

I think it's about time the West let Christians, Jews, Hindus, etc. migrate from the ME, especially if they can show persecution. OTOH, I think it's time to tell the Muslims, "No". We'll try to help you work your own problems out, but the ultimate solution to Muslim terrorists will be the Muslim people themselves.

Guy was a fairly recent Libyan immigrant.
From what I understand, he was born in Manchester, and grew up in a Libyan community there. He was recently radicalised, and had made recent trips to Libya.

We think of trips to Libya as exotic. I'm sure it is s not that way in Europe.

I may be wrong. This early in the news cycle, facts are fluid, at best.

On my FB page, some people are attempting to imply this is a false flag operation.
A talking head on CNN said the same thing.

http://twitchy.com/samj-3930/2017/05/23/move-over-infowars-here-comes-cnn-analyst-blames-manchesterbombing-on-right-wing-false-flag/

So CNN is connecting this attack with Mr. Trump and his deplorables.

Shocking.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Well, if he's of Libyan extraction, it presumably wouldn't be unusual to visit. It sounds as though his family came over to escape Qaddafi, so presumably with him gone, they'd have been able to visit without people thinking it particularly strange.

The majority of Muslims in that area are of Pakistani origin, but there is a relatively small Libyan population. I'm guessing with the recent upheavals in the country, the chances of them becoming radicalised has grown. Back when I lived there, most of the trouble was Iranians and Iraqi students getting into it with each other. Manchester has the biggest student population in Europe, around 80,000, so there's plenty of scope for trouble.

Have you ever been to Manchester? No, not the big hotel in the centre, the bits where the Muslims live.

Have you ever been to Rusholme?

According to reports, this guy lived in Fallowfield. I've been there many times, I went out with a girl who lived there. There are some nice pubs there, although it's a bit rough - Irish and Scots, and the locals aren't exactly rolling in money..

If you want to find out what these places are actually like, I would recommend visiting them, rather than reading some anti-Muslim blog.

OK, so the anti-Muslim sentiment isn't nice.

How about the anti-loser-Muslim sentiment?
I dislike the Muslim losers every bit as much as I disliked the Irish Catholic losers who blew up Manchester the last two times.

The Muslim losers are still trying to win.

Regardless of whether they are losers or just mindless fanatics, terrorism is the preferred, if not the only available, tactic of the weak.

It sounds as though they're expecting more attacks...

Incidentally, the idea that this is somehow engineered by the Conservatives is ludicrous - they were handily winning the election when I was there last week.

Are they weak?

In England, there are enough Muslims where surely they can wield enough political power to achieve things they want without resorting to killing Innocents.

Why would you lump all Muslims together? The mayor of London is a Muslim. Do you honestly believe he has the same agenda as the people fighting in Syria?

The problem isn't Muslims, it's Islamic extremism and fundamentalism.

The statement was not about Muslims, it was about fanatics or, if you like, losers of all sorts. They are weak.

Scary indeed. glad to hear your family is all ok.

Such a horrific event - targeting kids, ffs. The report of the kid(s?) whose parents were both killed, as they came to pick them up after the concert....what hell they must be going through.

FBI 'warned MI5 in January that the Manchester bomber was planning an attack on Britain'
Quote:

UK security chiefs were warned in January that Salman Abedi was planning an attack in Britain, it was claimed last night.

According to a security source, the FBI told MI5 that Abedi was part of a North African Islamic State cell plotting to strike a political target in the UK.

The information came from a US investigation into Abedi and his links to terrorist groups in Libya. The Mail on Sunday has also been told that US security services put him on a terror watch list – used by agents to identify key suspects – in 2016.

The shocking claim piles further pressure on MI5 to reveal when and how it became aware of Abedi, and why UK spies decided he did not pose a significant threat to British security.

The source told The Mail on Sunday: 'In early 2017 the FBI told MI5 that Abedi belonged to a North African terror gang based in Manchester, which was looking for a political target in this country.
