Had dinner with my neighbor whose daughter-in-law is in the first violin section of a well-known, highly-regarded orchestra which performs downtown (I'll let you guess which one that is... :trumpet: ).

Well it seems that the music director of this well-known, highly-regarded orchestra has decided that there are two members of the orchestra which he doesn't want to be playing when he conducts (I don't know which ones they are, I might add), but when he's "in residence" these two members are not to perform with the rest of the orchestra, and when the orchestra tours, they stay home. He's a bit of a perfectionist, you might say.

Of course, they still get paid, even if they don't play.

I had no idea that such a thing could happen.

If it were me, (after I found another job) I'd quit. I can't imagine the humiliation.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Wow. That is cold.
Got some more scoop this afternoon.

Apparently, one of these people is the principal viola!

He (obviously) sits where the music director of this well-known, highly-regarded orchestra can hear him very well, and the music director of this well-known, highly-regarded orchestra didn't like the way he played a couple of things. When a piece came up which called for a viola solo, the music director of this well-known, highly-regarded orchestra wanted someone else to play it.

This guy complained to the music director of this well-known, highly-regarded orchestra, "I'm Principal and it should go to me!"

As the music director prepares to take his orchestra on a West Coast tour next month, both the principal oboe and principal trumpet chairs remain unoccupied (auditions are ongoing), and principal viola Charles Pikler is on leave for undisclosed reasons.
