Fans of John le Carre - if you haven't already seen it, this is definitely worth a watch. Hugh Laurie is an absolutely wonderful villain - he's unrecognizable from the kind of good-natured upper class twit I typically think of him playing. |

I really enjoyed it. Red Rice was not a fan. And yeah, Laurie was delicious as the villain - sort of like House on steroids. |

OK, I finished the book yesterday, and I was amazed at the differences between the book and the miniseries: 1) The ending is completely different (for Roper, Pine and Jeds) 2) Wholly new characters are introduced who are not in the miniseries 3) The miniseries is far less ambiguous and mysterious than the book. So, I re-watched the miniseries over the last few days. Still, it's very good, but ... different. As I've said before, I was reminded of a review of the film "Catch-22" in Time magazine: "Mike Nichols' 'Catch-22' is not a bad film. Perhaps, some day, they'll make a movie of Joseph Heller's 'Catch-22'." I felt like I was watching a movie in which I knew all the characters (other than the ones introduced in the AMC version), but I didn't know how the story would end. Also, I just read that AMC is going to remake "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold." |

I'm not sure I'd want a movie that was as confusing and intricate as a Le Carre novel. It's great in a novel, but movies are something else. |

Having plowed through three or four Le Carre books in the last month or two, I agree. But, "Spy Who Came In" is a pretty straightforward story, isn't it? Especially when compared with TTSS, or "Night Manager." I think "Call for the Dead" would translate pretty well to screen. Admittedly, I haven't read it, yet. |

I haven't read 'Spy who came in...', I've only seen the movie. The book might be just as confusing (and enjoyable) as all the others. Personally, I don't think they should remake movies that had Richard Burton in them, but that's just me. |
