Actually, I've brought you full circle and you don't even realize it. The original post in this thread was an article arguing the point that CO2 had little to do with climate change. You've gone from telling us why the man is ignorant for claiming that CO2 has little to do with climate change to telling us that we're ignorant because we don't understand that ......... wait for it..... CO2 has little to do with climate change.... BAHAHAHAHAHAHA |

The fact that the physics behind his argument was totally bogus is irrelevant, as long as he came to the correct conclusion! After all, even people with degrees in sociology know that apples fall downwards. That doesn't mean we need to accept their explanation that the apple falls due to peer pressure to conform to social stereotypes. |

honest question setting aside all the specific arguments, what i have never understood is why climate change has to be such a politcially partisan issue. why cant one be deeply politicaly conservative, always vote republican, believe in small government with giving power to individual states, ill throw in deeply anti abortion, pro gun laws, and still think there is global warming. or, why cant one be deeply liberal, a bernie sanders socialist left wing, pro obama care, pro government intervention for social causes, anti gun, and also, by the way, think that there is no global warming. what makes global warming such a politically charged issue?? strange |

It has become a political issue because the obvious measures to combat it tend to impinge on the corporate powerbase (big oil, big auto, etc.). Since those interests funnel a *lot* of money into the political process, it becomes political. |

It was that guy who invented the internet. I have expressed my thinking on it a hundred times, that we keep asking the wrong questions. Does anyone think it is a good idea to stay on the path we are now with ever increasing CO2 emissions from coal fired power in the developing world? |

It's indicative of a tribal mentality. If humans were behaving rationally I don't think there would be the amazingly strong correlation between views on gun laws and those on abortion nor between how healthcare should be governed and whether or not burning carbon is changing the environment. The reason for this strong correlation is that people do not consider each issue independently weighing the evidence or arguments they come across to come to conclusions. Instead, they identify with a particular political tribe and simply adopt wholesale all the views that are associated with that tribe. It's a demonstration that the political process is failing. |

Money talks. If changing climate change is profitable it is good. If changing climate change is not profitable it is bad. Changing climate change was good for Solyndra in 2009, not so good in 2011. |

Personally, I'm a proponent for reducing CO2. I'm generally a conservative, and at the core of that word is "conserve". I'm a Christian, and I take to heart God's Command that we be good stewards of the world we live in. |

Because Conservatives' brains are wired to think rationally using logic and common sense, and Liberals' brains are wired to think using emotions and herd mentality. Algore told them the sky is falling, and by god you do not get in the way of it. |

Not so strange. Conservatives distrust "world governments", multi-lateralism etc. and generally don't like to take freedoms and responsibilities from individuals away and shift them higher up. But most proposed counter-measures against global warming do just that. Also, the large majority of the scientists who investigate GW are politically liberal, hence there is a kind of gut instinct to distrust those people. For many liberals, on the other hand, global warming fits so well into their narrative that even if a liberal could have freely invented something to support their world view then he or she would have likely come up with global warming. Even without global warming, global measures for environmental protection, against unlimited economic growth etc. are high up on their agenda, and global warming "supports" all these concerns in a sense. |

Reducing CO2? Fine by me, except it ain't gonna happen. Too many poor people, who don't give a rat's rectum about CO2 levels, if the government will let NORCHINBIZ build a plant in their town, bringing with it jobs, better schools, indoor plumbing and running water. Not to mention next time you are without power for three days, y'all would give top dollar for a gas generator and twenty gallons of fuel - emissions be damned. It's all relative, folks. We worry about crap that 70% of the world could care less about... |

My understanding is that if we send enough billions to third world countries that will fix it. |

No, send billions to international law firms and accounting and management companies that keep the money in trust accounts on behalf of green funds for carbon credits and offsets that are administered by merchant banks. In that way the money can evaporate into thin air and end up in the lawyers', accountants' and bankers' pockets when another banking crash happens as it did in 2008. |
