That shed could be worth quite a bit:

That's $50 per board. I asked the clerk if anyone ever buys any of it and he told me that it's fairly popular. :excited:

Gads! Thanks, Steve!

It's too late to fool with it this year, will deal with it in the spring. But seriously, if the wood is at all usable, I might put an ad in craigslist.

I appreciate the good idea. :)

Boy, they really skin you city slickers, don't they?

hahahahahahahahaha

Around here, there are people who will pay you to tear down an old barn and take the wood away.

Artisan firewood?

 I mean -- Yes! Yes, it is! You can tell just by looking at it. It's just real . . . artisanny.

Honest.

Little short scraps of wood like that for 50 bucks each will probably end up being bought by artsy fartsy city women who will then make "rustic chic" artsy fartsy little things to hang on her walls so all her artsy fartsy female friends can ooh and aah about how "creative" she is....

At what looks like about 20 dollars a linear foot, and figuring that the store is selling it for double what they paid for it, I'm figuring I have about half a million dollars worth of it.... all I have to do now is get it to California..... lol

Love this thread! Yes, Cats, get some bucks from your old shed. What an excellent idea! I had no idea people would pay like that, but I should have known.

Good job for posting this, Steve!

I've seen the stuff for sale before but never for that much. The wood has "provenance" of sorts - it's from the old Ferry-Morse seed barn in NorCal - but still...

It's at a lumberyard near swanky Newport Beach, so that explains part of it. People there really don't care what anything costs; they buy what they like. The reason I was shopping there is that we're working on a 60's triplex, 4 blocks from the beach, small-ish, no view, no parking to speak of, that my client recently purchased for $2.8 mil. The units (2 BR, 1 BA) rent for $5K per month. It's nicely remodeled but not all that. That deal makes no sense on any level but my client fell in love with the place and that's all there is to it. She paid cash, of course. The tenants are hardly ever there - they all have homes elsewhere and use the apartment only a few months in the winter.

She is paying us well to primp it, so I'm all for it.

Last time I saw anyone use the stuff they paneled half the house with it.

And it was a stomping big house, too.

I had a friend in Canada who was really into wood-work. He took away a load of wood like that from an old barn (the farmer gave it to him for free, I should add). He cleaned it up really well, and made a really nice looking TV cabinet out of it.

Of course, there wasn't exactly a shortage of wood in rural Ontario. You could get a fence put up for next to nothing.

Thanks for the tip Steve.

For years I have been trying to get my mother to get rid of a pile of recycled redwood in her backyard, but my brothers have all been too lazy to deal with them. So, yeah, Craigslist here we come!
