My son starts archery Thursday. Any advice? He's 7.

I already warned him that the bow might be pretty hard to pull back at first but it'll get easier.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Cool. My first piece of advice would be not to let his dad shoot with him, end up buying a load of expensive gear and then stop doing it because it's so bloody frustrating and time-consuming.

Other than that, the bow should be fine for him - they should hopefully start with a very light-weight draw and then he can slowly move up. I think the main thing is not to get frustrated early.

Joking aside, I found it was a really fun thing to do with my kids. My daughter in particular really enjoyed it, but started getting a bit overwhelmed with all her other stuff, so we decided to drop one thing which was archery.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

I'll definitely just be watching. This is organized by the town rec department for school kids (7-15). I'm a bit worried about him getting frustrated, but hopefully they'll have easy bows and large targets to start, at least for the young ones.

If the teachers know what they're doing, they should start at a reduced range, with big targets, then slowly move towards smaller targets followed by a greater range. Our club was run by a national coach level guy, and he did a fantastic job of starting really easy, and then slowly ramping up the difficulty.

They also used to introduce fun stuff such as replacing the targets with old teddy bears and big pictures of zombies and what-have-you. My daughter's face when I decapitated this cute little stuffed bunny rabbit was something to behold.
