You need look no further than the White House to see the genesis of the Trump campaign.

I think the WH bears quite a bit of responsibility for the mess in Syria. It was weak, and drew a line regarding chemical weapons, which somebody, almost certainly Assad, then crossed, and then did nothing.

However, the demonizing of Syrian refugees is an absolutely shameful thing to do. Will there be some bad apples, if you'll excuse the phrase, in amongst the poor devils trying to get out? Of course there will. Does that really mean we should do nothing?

If I recall correctly, 10% of the Syrian population is Christian. I don't know if they *would* represent a proportional amount of the refugees, but they are significantly underrepresented in this story, if true.

And, John. It's *skittles*, FFS.

Of course not. We should pressure the rest of the Muslim world to take in their brethren. After all, that is part of the Koran's teaching, is it not?

The problem with expecting the Muslim Arab world to take in their bretheren is that that world is predominantly sectarian, tribal and clannish, in short openly hostile towards outsiders. That leaves the non Arab Muslim states to take the Arab refugees. They are either not interested, incapable or, openly hostile towards outsiders. That leaves it up to Europe and North America to take in the refugees since we are less hostile towards them than anyone else.

Possibly, but we have moved past being tribal, clannish and sectarian and, although it remains work in progress, are generally less hostile towards outsiders. The latter, is tenuous at best.

This makes no sense on a variety of levels.

"Muslim Arab world to 'take in their bretheren'" -- What do you then mean by "bretheren?"
"...the world is predominantly sectarian, tribal and clannish, in short openly hostile towards outsiders" -- huh? Who? Your sentence makes absolutely no sense at all.
"That leaves the non Arab Muslim States to take the Arab refugees." Which States would these be?
"They are either not interested (huh??), incapable (why??) or, openly hostile towards outsiders." Who are these "outsiders" you speak of?
"That leaves it up to Europe and North America to take in the refugees (why??) since we (who is we??) are less hostile towards them than anyone else (who is the hostile "anyone else"??)

Renauda, I have the utmost respect for your input. The above is, in my opinion, a thick slice of Swiss Cheese.

Rainman: yes of course, it's bull**** and I'm glad you called me on it.

What I really wanted to say is that the English speaking peoples of the world and, in particular, the Americans, are currently saddled with the yoke of the Arab refugee because of who we are in the world. To paraphrase T.E. Lawrence, the Arabs are a little people and will always remain a little people burdened by their tribe, clan and religion. It is foolishness on our part to expect them to look after one another with any degree of respect, compassion or mercy.

Yes. Perhaps the Americans could glean some wisdom from history.
Naw. . . ain't gonna happen.

It would seem to me that plenty of non-English speaking European countries are a lot more saddled than the US is at the moment.

To everybody here who's worried about letting in more Syrian refugees:

Do you even know anything about our refugee application process? Do you know that it's an absolute no-brainer for a potential terrorist to try to get a visa to sneak into America rather than apply for refugee status?
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Sush now, that's not the concern here.
