BREXIT Article 50 by April 2017; Theresa May outlines timeframe

The below quote from the article, is what I could never understand, in that how the U.K. at that time could relinquish sovereignty.

A year before joining what was then the European Economic Community in 1973, the Government paved the way with the 1972 Act. It is the crucial piece of legislation that makes European Union law automatically binding in the UK. If there is a clash with British law, EU law takes precedence.


So, at this point Article 50 will occur by the end of next March. All of the EU laws/regulations will be transferred into the British Parliament, where each law will be evaluated and either retained as British law, or rejected. The process may take decades (dat's a lotta laws!)

I'm sure D'Oh can correct my assessment, or add insight.
