Brats - browned after cooking in beer for an hour.
Grilled onions
Cole slaw
Corn on the cob.

Why...it's almost like summer!

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Sounds great.

BTW, I tried your method for making corn on the cob in the microwave with the husk on. At least I think it was you who mentioned it a few weeks ago. I dearly love corn grilled in the husk but alas, we have no grill. Microwaving is great! Especially the part where the silk comes off so easily.

Bon appetit with your brats.

A famous passage from Nero Wolfe, eccentric genius detective created by Rex Stout: (I forget which book.)

"Millions of American women, and some men, commit that outrage every summer day. They are turning a superb treat into mere provender. Shucked and boiled in water, sweet corn is edible and nutritious; roasted in the husk in the hottest possible oven for forty minutes, shucked at the table, and buttered and salted, nothing else, it is ambrosia. No chef's ingenuity and imagination have ever created a finer dish. American women should themselves be boiled in water."

I should mention that Wolfe also disliked women and found them alarming.

Just finished sautéing the onions. They're so tasty, I ate a few rings right out of the skillet.

Brats are simmering in beer right now. I'll let them go for about an hour.

Then, onto the skillet they go. Hopefully, they'll come out something like this:

From the Trio for Blunt Instruments trilogy (had to look that title up), a short story called Murder is Corny (didn't have to look that up).

Ever seen the A&E series with Timothy Hutton as Archie and Maury Chaykin as Wolfe? Wonderful, wonderful. Superb supporting cast, especially the actors who played Cramer, Cohen and Panzer.

No-o-o-o, I didn't! What a great cast. I can see Timothy Hutton doing Archie so clearly.

That must be before A&E (remember when that stood for "Arts and Entertainment" :lol2: ?) became "The Murder Channel."

Mrs. George just vetoed the corn on the cob. It'll be too much food.

I'll have to drown my sorrows in some (not-so-cheap) Scotch.

Never understood the appeal of grilled corn on the cob. In my experience, none of the "grilliness" comes into the flavor. Might as well nuke it. Easier, too.

I think that depends how you do it. I do is husked, not in husk. You get a nice caramelization and a very different flavor, but you have to mind you don't overdo it.
