Hardware hack defeats iPhone passcode security http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37407047 Done by physically removing the flash memory chip from an iPhone 5c, cloning its content on a separate rig, and keep trying different decryption keys on the clones. When executed by law enforcement, that method has virtually no impact on civil liberty or mass surveillance because it requires physical possession of the device. No "backdoor," no software that can be remotely deployed. So no way to do it en masse to unsuspecting public. |

I turned off my iPhone at a wedding the other day - powered off. When I turned it back on it said "Hello" - like it had just come out of the box. I couldn't get it to do anything else. When I got home I plugged it into the Mac, a message popped up on the Mac asking for the Apple ID and password for the phone. I entered them and the iPhone started up with all my stuff - just how it looked before I turned it off. I have no idea how I reset it to look like it just came out of the box and I have no idea why it went back to normal. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |
