Sexist sex education has been slammed by sex expert Diane Halpern who looked at over 50 studies surveying more than a million students aged 12 through 18 at schools in the United States, Britain, Japan and seven other countries.

She concluded that students found sex education to be sexist and too scientific, mainly because teachers have presented the information in a very scientific way, to a fault, and have made no mention of “physical pleasure and desire…” said SpreadIt.

Halpern, an expert in sex, gender, and cognition issues for 30 years, recently published her findings in the journal BMJ Open.

The study looked at “how students view sex education” and was sparked by students from the 10 countries who believe “sex education is sexist, skewed toward heterosexual intercourse, moralistic, and just plain embarrassing.”

One student said: “Everything we got in our class had a really clinical feel. They don’t mention anything about same-sex relationships.”

Pandora Pound, a research fellow in public health research methodology at the University of Bristol in the U.K., agreed:

Anyway--we should teach these 12 yo's to do it every which way they can, it seems.

Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

Oh, that reminds me of arguing with ivorythumper on whether (public) school education should be "value free" (ivorythumper's term). Good times! :D

There was a study done in England to determine why the head of a penis was larger than the shaft. After a year long study, the British researchers concluded it was for the benefit of the male's pleasure during sex.

Not satisfied with the results, French researchers did another study, and after two years concluded it was for the benefit of the female's pleasure.

Poland researchers decided to do the same study, and after two weeks determined it was to keep your hand from slipping off the end...

It's what a lot of people think.

Are kids so clueless that they need to be taught physical pleasure and desire?

Friday nails it in one.

Do you want someone else teaching your kids about sexual pleasure?

Do you teach them about sexual pleasure? I certainly didn't/don't. It's not something that needs to be taught even to the most mentally disabled person.

It's instinct.

Yeah, well we are rapidly breeding any of that out. A lot of 'multiculturalism' relies on suppressing those instincts that our species developed over hundreds of thousands of years. Evolution does not progress nearly as quickly as technology.

Friday's right. The purpose of Sex Ed should be the science of sex. What this lady is proposing is a study of the psychology of sex, which I guess can be appropriate to a college course, but really is inappropriate to a bunch of school kids.

The problem for the lady is that any sex outside of the pro creational is a just a "hobby." Of personal interest to the participants but of little scientific value.

That's not what I meant. There's more to having a happy sex life than the mechanics. There's the matter of respecting the other person, and being in a loving relationship etc. etc. The stuff a decent parent would be teaching, but frequently isn't.

Learning about sex by just reading about the mechanics is like learning history by memorising a bunch of dates.

That is the problem.

I know this guy who drinks (cheap) scotch and who, in fact, is about to retire from his day job. He'd be perfect.

And who exactly is supposed to teach how to have a long happy loving relationship to your kids? Some girl that just got her BS in Education from the local state U reading out of some book by some random psychologist?

No, of course it's not, Tom was the one making the initial silly example, not me. Sex-ed should be taught by people with actual life experience. The mechanics is just biology, there's a lot more to it than that - at least, there should be.

I also think with the universal availability of pr0n, that the need to talk about things other than the pure mechanics is more important than ever. All kidding aside, most porn is hardly likely to install a feeling of respect, in particular for women who are almost invariably portrayed as insatiable sluts ready to be taken advantage of.

That's what sex-ed should be about.

And they are to be found how? Who exactly is to say who's life experience is worthwhile. John, you are delving into a personal that doesn't belong in the schools.

I'd like to see the job requisition for "Sex Teacher With Plenty of Hands On Experience."
Nope, we keep sex ed a science and leave the value judgments to the parents.

No, what hasn't worked IS Sex Ed that's been going on in America for the last 40 years. We've had it. It's been taught. Maybe not to the liberal nth degree, but it's been there. And THAT hasn't worked--not at all.

Unfortunately the solution to the problems caused by liberalism isn't MORE liberalism. :(
