People want to start a civil war. And they feel encouraged to do it by our social/media ideas of oppressed vs oppressor, which most of us are too self-interested to question. We have a vicious and violent cultural idea which destroys any individual who thinks Incorrect thoughts about how much racism actually matters. There's no margin in being Incorrect. And now there's no margin in being a cop.

CNN loves this.

Absolutely loves it.

And will continue to encourage it.

Both of you are absolutely right. But I don't have a clue how to change the situation.

Earlier today I suggested that it would be useful for citizens to focus on their own patch, and to cease assuming that their patch is the same as Dallas or Baton Rouge or Schenectady. Or Lancaster County. That way, instead of being convinced that "this country" is going to perdition, which the TV strives relentlessly to cram into our brains, the citizen can honestly say, it's terrible that Dallas, etc are like that, but honestly My Town, USA isn't and never has been. Or My Town is even worse; whatever.

I will probably repeat this until y'all are bored to screaming point, but I truly believe that our salvation rests with each and every one of us taking charge of our own beliefs, our own behaviors, our own informed opinions, and our own intentions. When CNN drenches us in dire dreadfulness, we must be equipped to judge them accurately.

Horace's presenting of that study is a great, great example of this.

Another great one was Copper shaking the hand of the airport cop. Who knows what effect that had on the man's outlook!

Love your stuff, Cat. I really do.

It's the first thing I look for when I log in.
