Plot to kill Donald Trump: New details on the suspect

New details are emerging about Michael Sandford, the Briton who drove to a Donald Trump rally with the intent to kill the presumed GOP presidential nominee.

Man tried to grab cop's gun to kill Trump at Las Vegas rally, authorities say

A man arrested at a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas over the weekend told authorities he tried to grab an officer's gun so he could kill the candidate, according to court documents released Monday.

The documents also showed that the suspect was in the United States illegally. He had overstayed his visa from the United Kingdom, KLAS reported.

A complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Nevada charges Michael Steven Sandford, 19, with an act of violence on restricted grounds. A judge denied him bail at a court hearing Monday.

Authorities said Sandford went to a Trump rally on Saturday at the Treasure Island Casino and approached a Las Vegas police officer to say he wanted an autograph from Trump.

The court document says that Sandford was arrested after grabbing the handle of an officer's gun in an attempt to remove it.

When Sandford was asked by a Special Agent why he attempted to grab the officer's gun, he replied "to shoot and kill Trump."

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Finally
Pleads guilty and could get two years and deportation.

Michael Steven Sandford, 20, is facing federal charges of being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting an official function, which could get him about two years in U.S. prison and deported, according to CBS News.

“I tried to take a gun from a policeman to shoot someone with, and I’m pleading guilty,” Sandford said in court.

At the event he asked a police officer if he could get an autograph of Trump and then reached both of his hands for the officer’s weapon, CBS reports.

Sanford told a federal agent that he drove from California to Las Vegas with intentions to kill Trump and that he practiced at a gun range with a 9mm pistol the day before the attempt.

With the plea deal, Sandford will not be able to file an appeal.

Two years for an attempted assassination? I wonder what the sentencing guidelines are.

First-degree attempted murder carries greater penalties and often means a life sentence with the possibility of parole. Offenders typically spend at least 10 years in prison, although mandatory minimum sentences for attempting to murder a public official may be 10 to 15 years. Federal laws for attempting to kill a member of Congress or other federal official impose penalties ranging from 70 to 162 months.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
That was his plan? Grab a cop's gun and shoot Trump?

Not much of a planner, that one.

HOLY CARP!!!
The perpetrator is from UK. Why would a Brit want to assassinate Trump?
That and the very short prison term all seem screwy.
