Edwards, the first Democrat to hold the office of governor in Louisiana since 2008, said he planned to begin accepting federal funding on Tuesday to expand healthcare to residents through the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. “Your tax dollars should not be going to one of the 30 other states that have expanded Medicaid when we are one of the states that expansion will help the most,” Edwards, 49, said during the address. I've posted before about the huge boom in hospital construction I've seen around here and that I think it has to do with Medicaid expansion. I saw several hospital construction projects when I was in Ohio as well, although I didn't travel through enough cities to decide if there was a trend or not. Jolly has posted about hospital closures and such in his town, and what little I can find on the net tells me that this is the case in at least some of the state Louisiana. Will this additional funding source make a difference? |

I assure you no building is being done based on Medicaid reimbursement. The building boom for hospitals has been going on for 25 years and has more to do with technology, service delivery efficiencies, aging infrastructure and especially demographic shifts to areas of folks with private insurance. |
