I hadn't heard the word hospitalist before. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

We're on our second bunch in 10 years. That mentality also is pervasive in the OR. Our choices of drug are limited (some places they won't allow the staff to use IV acetaminophen). Mine is a very tactile specialty. When they switch to a new type of IV catheter that feels different when I insert it, it's going to cause more misses. When the epidural needle and catheter have a different curve, or different sharpness, you're going to have more failed epidurals. Bean counters don't get that. My (former) group's contract with the hospital expires next month. It will be very interesting to see how it goes. |

What do you get when you put a hospitalist on steroids? An intensivist. |

Oh, and put this one in the Butter my butt and call me a biscuit! file, but yesterday I saw a small town, country surgeon do a flexor tendon repair (at the specific request of the family) on 4 tendons. Patient injury stemmed from a glass cut. General consensus was the doc did a pretty decent job... |
