WWIII coming up. Stalwart leadership have we.
Speaking of WWII...

One of the arguments against letting passengers on the SS St. Louis enter America after they left Cuba was that there could be radicals amongst them. As a matter of fact Nazi Germany's own propaganda efforts perpetuated this claim, insinuating that the Jews were Communists.

Our federal government's public statements regarding the refugees, as well as editorials from our newspapers, were all sympathetic but we still didn't let them land. A popular suggestion at the time was that they go to another European country. They were neighbors, after all, and a lot of the Jewish refugees already had family in some of these countries. And the captain was sympathetic, so that's where he turned the ship.

Most of the refugees landed in adjacent countries, most of which were then invaded by Hitler's army.

About half the people on that boat died, many of which in concentration camps.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

About half the people on that boat died, many of which in concentration camps.
70 years ago some racists made up stories about innocent women and children being radicals.

So now they should ignore/let in/coddle/feel guilty about confirmed terrorists sneaking into Germany.

I'm having trouble with the logic.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

If the 4 million refugees were distributed amongst Europe and the US you would be adding 4 million people to a prexisting population of 743 + 318 (google) = 1.061 billion people. That equates to population change of 0.4%. You think that's going to cause social and economic collapse?
If not collapse, the migrants present an existential threat to Europe.

Who said that? Secretary of State Kerry.

Quote:

. So the burdens of Europe, which is already facing a complex economic, political, and social strain, is now even more intense. And I want to make it clear to all of you: We in the United States aren’t sitting across the pond thinking somehow we’re immune. We’re not sitting there saying this is your problem, not ours – no. This is our problem. The United States of America understands the near existential nature of this threat to the politics and fabric of life in Europe – and that is why we are joining now in enforcing a NATO mission to close off a key access route, and that is why we will join with you in other ways to stem this tide because of the potential of its damage to the fabric of a united Europe. ‎

Hmm. "Problem," "Threat," "Existential."

Interesting words. Maybe he is "afraid of widows and orphans."

Maybe some James Taylor would help.

In retrospect, the verdict was obvious. I can just hear Kerry telling the judge: "I actually voted for the plaintiffs, before I voted against them."

And the scales fall from Germany's eyes:

Quote:

Most of the suspects identified in connection with a series of robberies and sexual assaults in Cologne during New Year's celebrations are refugees, prosecutors said Monday.

The crimes, described as unprecedented by authorities, sparked uproar in Germany and a heated debate about the country's ability to integrate almost 1.1 million people who sought asylum there last year.

The incident has led to both a political and a personal backlash against the mostly Middle Eastern and North African asylum seekers that flooded the country last year.

Numerous migrants reported being attacked themselves randomly in the wake of the Cologne assaults, and Chancellor Angela Merkel's soaring popularity took a major nosedive afterwards. The Cologne sexual assaults even almost led to an international incident with Russia.

Cologne prosecutor Ulrich Bremer said 73 suspects have been identified so far - most of them from North Africa. A total of 1,075 criminal complaints have been filed, including 467 alleging crimes of a sexual nature ranging from insults to rape.

"The overwhelming majority of persons fall into the general category of refugees," Bremer told The Associated Press, saying recent reports describing only three of the suspects as refugees were "total nonsense."

Initially, authorities in Cologne were accused of downplaying the fact that the attackers included many asylum-seekers because of the political sensitivity of the issue.

The suspects included 30 Moroccan nationals, 27 Algerians, four Iraqis, three Germans, three Syrians, three Tunisians, and one each from Libya, Iran and Montenegro, Bremer said.

"They have various legal statuses, including illegal entry, asylum-seekers and asylum applicants," he said of the foreign suspects. "That covers the overwhelming majority of suspects."

And, Obama warned the Brits today that their relationship with the U.S. regarding trade, would put them in the "queue" as far as negotiations, should the June 23rd referendum go in favor of those wanting out of the EU.
In other words, NO to Brexit. . . or else.

I don't think that was really the tone of what he said, he's spelling out what should be obvious if the UK opts out of free trade with Europe. A lot of people are pretty worried about the consequences of a Brexit.

And let's face it, anything that Michael Gove, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage agree is a good idea is pretty much guaranteed to be bloody stupid.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

69,000 crimes in 3 months.

I don't know what percentage this represents, but I'll guess that it's greater than zero.

Quote:

Migrants in Germany committed or tried to commit some 69,000 crimes in the first quarter of 2016, according to a police report that could raise unease, especially among anti-immigrant groups, about Chancellor Angela Merkel's liberal migrant policy.

There was a record influx of more than a million migrants into Germany last year and concerns are now widespread about how Europe's largest economy will manage to integrate them and ensure security.

The report from the BKA federal police showed that migrants from northern Africa, Georgia and Serbia were disproportionately represented among the suspects.

Absolute numbers of crimes committed by Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis - the three biggest groups of asylum seekers in Germany - were high but given the proportion of migrants that they account for, their involvement in crimes was "clearly disproportionately low", the report said.

It gave no breakdown of the number of actual crimes and of would-be crimes, nor did it state what percentage the 69,000 figure represented with respect to the total number of crimes and would-be crimes committed in the first three months of 2016.

The report stated that the vast majority of migrants did not commit any crimes.

It is the first time the BKA has published a report on crimes committed by migrants containing data from all of Germany's 16 states, so there is no comparable data.

The report showed that 29.2 percent of the crimes migrants committed or tried to commit in the first quarter were thefts, 28.3 percent were property or forgery offences and 23 percent offences such as bodily harm, robbery and unlawful detention.

Drug-related offences accounted for 6.6 percent and sex crimes accounted for 1.1 percent.

In Cologne at New Year, hundreds of women said they were groped, assaulted and robbed, with police saying the suspects were mainly of North African and Arab appearance. Prosecutors said last week three Pakistani men seeking asylum in Germany were under investigation after dozens of women said they were sexually harassed at a music festival.

The number of crimes committed by migrants declined by more than 18 percent between January and March, however, according to the report.

Bring in the refugees! And while you're at it, how about a nice case of tuberculosis?

Or seven.

Quote:

Seven refugees with active tuberculosis (TB) were diagnosed shortly after their resettlement in Idaho between 2011 and 2015, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
This makes Idaho the seventh state to confirm to Breitbart News that recently arrived refugees have been diagnosed with active TB.

The other states in which recently arrived refugees have been diagnosed with active TB include: Louisiana (twenty-one), Florida (eleven), Colorado, (ten), Indiana (four), Kentucky (where nine were diagnosed in one county), and North Dakota (where four refugees who resided in the United States for less than five years were diagnosed in one county).

Idaho is one of fourteen states that have withdrawn from the federal refugee resettlement program where the federal government has hired a voluntary agency (VOLAG) to resettle refugees under the statutorily questionable Wilson Fish alternative program.
...
4,650 refugees were resettled in Idaho between 2011 and 2015. Of these, 17 percent, or 785 were from Iraq, 15 percent, or 708, were from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 12 percent, or 554, were from Bhutan, and 11 percent, or 500, were from Burma.

The Congo, Burma, and Bhutan are countries with high rates of active TB and latent TB infection (LTBI).

90 percent of the 4,650 refugees resettled in Idaho between 2011 and 2015, or 4202, were medically screened within the first three months of their arrival, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

Of those screened, 21 percent (896) tested positive for LTBI.

Only four percent of the general population in the United States tests positive for LTBI.

A recent UC San Diego study concluded that high rates of LTBI among resettled refugees “increase risk of active TB in refugee resettlement communities.”

I'm highly critical of our immigration policy, but let me ask you a question, George:

Should refugees be denied entry because the likelihood for conditions like TB is higher?

By that logic, Americans should be denied entry to most countries due to a higher likelihood for obesity.
