If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

My Favorite Redhead is in Madison-Milwaukee-Chicago this week, so The Princess and I will be dining downtown at Boca tonight. It is the same building where the sadly missed Maisonette used to be, the 5 star French place I used to take her for lunch at Christmas, then shopping for her mother. Boca is French-Italian and a worthy successor, although not quite a fru-fru or pricey. I'll be eager to see if she likes it. http://bocacincinnati.com/ ![]() ![]() ![]() Daddy Daughter dates are the best. |

I always liked dates with girls that had daddy issues. I realize that's not quite the same thing. Seriously, though:

Yes, I think it's really important for daughters to have these times with their dads. I encourage it for my hubby and daughter. Mine were spent with my dad in the garage while we tuned our motorcycles.

We had a glorious evening. Boca was spectacular, as usual, and the company unbeatable. |

Good deal. Mine were spent with my dad in the garage while he loaded his rifle ammunition. Though he was always kind of shirty about allowing me to help. On Boca: Love the facade. So whudja eat? Oops, never mind, I got my times mixed up again. Tell us after you et. Edited by Catseye, Aug 6 2015, 02:08 AM.

This is one of those small serving, exquisite food places. We like to order several things and share. Everything we ordered was awesome and inspired. Daughter had never had oysters, so we each had one Oysters Rockefeller, which she liked. Then the Bluefin Tuna Crudo, which was a masterpiece. Layered with compressed watermelon, thin avocado slices, paper thin shishito pepper and ponzu sauce. A top dish ever. Then we went with the Short Rib Tartare, which was very good but not as memorable. Next for me was Sweet Corn Agnolotti (think ravioli) with black truffle shavings and a light butter sauce. She ordered the butter braised lobster pasta with english peas. For the final course I had branzino (sea bass, not chilean) and she had a braised goat risotto which was to die for. Don't even ask about dessert, which we split. Best chocolate dish ever. So, all in all, we had a ball. Since she is a server she noticed a lot of things about the service and the restaurant design that I did not. Her observations were interesting. Our political conversations are a bit strained as she has spent too many years in an academic setting. It is a lot of fun when I work on not seeing her as my kid but as the beautiful, fascinating and vibrant young adult that she is. That is work I need to keep up with. I'll always be her dad when she needs me, but need to respect her as an adult. Granted, one whom I am still footing the bill for, but still.....

Thank you. If I'd had the pleasure of that meal, it would be on my Top Ten Good Deathbed memories. I had to look up ponzu sauce. I found a recipe for it in Jolly's favorite newspaper; I'll have to make it one day, when I find myself in possession of A) sake, B) kelp and C) bonita flakes. |
