One rat. Lots of mice. The story said the shooter had a criminal record. Is this another failure of the background checks? Big Al |

My god. This guy was a real winner. He probably shot up the theatre when he realized the movie ('trainwreck') was not about his life. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/25/us/lafayette-theater-shooting-john-houser.html |

I heard this morning he bought it legally at a pawn shop. He may not have had a felony conviction. |

It seems the Louisiana has the highest rate of gun deaths in the USA. And it seem that is an affectation that abounds in the South. New York of all places seems like a haven of peace and tranquility in the nation. |

Well, we've got New Orleans. While New Orleans can be a fun town, it usually runs close to the top for big city murder rates. |

"The Health Department data indicated nearly all the gun deaths in Vermont are the result of suicides. In 2011, just four of the 78 gun deaths were homicides. In 2010, two of the 70 gun deaths were homicides." http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/local/vermont/2014/07/17/vt-gun-deaths-outpaced-car-accident-deaths/12756651/ |

Thank goodness it's really called New Hampshire, otherwise their suicide rate would be even higher than Vermont's. They'd all want to die if they couldn't have a p. |

I found this table, from the Feebs: https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/tables/20tabledatadecpdf/table_20_murder_by_state_types_of_weapons_2012.xls Data is for 2012. Louisiana had 1 murder for every 10,109 people. 81% were caused by firearms. Vermont had 1 murder for every 78,267 people. 25% were caused by firearms. California had 1 murder for every 20,223 people. 69% were caused by firearms. Massachusetts, famed gun haters, had 1 murder for every 55,008. 58% were caused by firearms. Special Note on Alabama: Alabama reported 2 deaths by homocide. A footnote said, "Limited supplemental homicide data were received". It is speculated that this is because somebody shot the data collector.* *I made that up.
