Something like Dan Brown, John Grisham or the dragon tattoo girl.

A real page turner, low brow.

Any recommendations?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

hmm, will have to chew on that. Will get back to you in the morning. I sure miss the summer of the millenium triology - that was a perfect summer read.

John Le Carré, man. Not entirely mindless, but easy to follow, quick to read and fun.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Anything by Harlan Coben. Like potato chips.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

John Sandford (favorite son of Minnesooota)

Robert B Parker (especially good for fast read: smart, funny, no thought required. I recommend you try to read them more or less chronologically; see copyright dates)

Robert Crais

Dennis LeHane (not entirely mindless escapist, but not a whole lot of brainwork needed)

David Rosenfelt

Trevanian's Shibumi

If you like sword scifi, Michael J Sullivan's trilogy is great for passing the time: Theft of Swords, Rise of Empire, Heir of Navron

Lee Child - Jack Reacher, baby. In real life he looks nothing like Tom Cruise.

Michael Connolly - the Harry Bosch novels are great.

My father recommended me to read this book:

Still need to start reading it, but he's usually right! At least when it comes down to good mindless thrillers

You seem somewhat familiar. Have I threatened you before?

Parker is good, but you'll blow through one in a couple of hours or so.

Maybe I'm like everybody else, but I think James Patterson writes a good read. If you like the spy stuff, give Silva a try...

Lots of good suggestions here! I'll add Jo Nesbř (Harry Hole detective series)

I believe "Bats" is the first, if you wanted to read them in order. They weren't all translated (and not in order) until fairly recently.

Finished the Follett in a day. (It's why I'm still up at 1am)

I'll probably try some of the others in the thread.

Fresh Air was raving about this one a couple weeks ago:

As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?
