I don't know how to transfer images to this board (natch; do I know how to do anything on a computer?), or else I would do so with this great photo. Those of you who enjoy good or interesting photography will appreciate this photo, but really it's for everybody. It's wonderful! Go to http://www.artofmanliness.com/2010/01/06/45-manly-hobbies/ and scroll down a little bit until you reach the B&W photo of four men playing chess. That's it. Great article to go along with it. Entertainment was not the passive thing it is today. |

I wonder, though, if they weren't playing that way deliberately -- raise the difficulty level of the game by using the same color for both players. Any chess players here? Is that possible? Do people do that? |

Not as far as I know, however some people do play without using pieces at all - "blindfold chess". The colour might be an artifact of the photograph - I think the pieces on the left look slightly lighter, and might have been a lot lighter in real life. |

I remember using dark red pieces as white, which would likely look the same as black in B&W photography |
