I don't know how to transfer images to this board (natch; do I know how to do anything on a computer?), or else I would do so with this great photo.

Those of you who enjoy good or interesting photography will appreciate this photo, but really it's for everybody. It's wonderful!

Go to http://www.artofmanliness.com/2010/01/06/45-manly-hobbies/ and scroll down a little bit until you reach the B&W photo of four men playing chess. That's it.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Great article to go along with it. Entertainment was not the passive thing it is today.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I wonder, though, if they weren't playing that way deliberately -- raise the difficulty level of the game by using the same color for both players.

Any chess players here? Is that possible? Do people do that?

Not as far as I know, however some people do play without using pieces at all - "blindfold chess".

The colour might be an artifact of the photograph - I think the pieces on the left look slightly lighter, and might have been a lot lighter in real life.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

I remember using dark red pieces as white, which would likely look the same as black in B&W photography
