In the summer....
Year round they go, and some stay until they croak, but some don't. It's a hardy bunch that stay year round.

Yep. Summers up north, winters down south is a common pattern.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

I love having dinner at the country club at Tellico Lake, because I can sit there and watch yankees dressed in hawaiian shirts, plaid shorts, black socks and brown shoes slurping their food and discussing how difficult their life is having to deal with all the "hillbillies"....

We have those folks, too, and we call them snow birds, but I was actually talking about retirees who choose the lake country for their year round home. They also go to northern Wisconsin to retire. I know of a couple who just did that last year. They go for the lakes.

Are you sure they didn't get lost on some rural road while trying to make it to sunnier climes, and just decided to stay and make the best of it? :P

There were a fair number of them where we lived in Canada. Despite the bloody awful winters the summers were magnificent, and frequently lasted 6 weeks and maybe more!
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

No wai - who would buy a lake house in Wisconsin?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

My grandparents had one. It was a beautiful place in the summer.

In the winter it was covered in snow and you couldn't see it.
