Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I don't understand why women need to be hair-free but men can be au natural and it not be considered "gross".

I hope this trend continues and women are freed!

One of my neighbors has an email that's J****404@gmail.com.

When she told me, I asked if her email couldn't be found, and she LOLed.

But, back to the subject of the thread...

I saw that story elsewhere earlier today, and my reaction was similar to yours. Then, I realized that my, um, displeasure with the trend is purely cultural. I'm sure that there are other cultures that do not find that disgusting repulsive smelly icky unusual. In fact, men don't (usually) get rid of axillary hair. It's probably a Western thing.

However, I don't choose to be part of those cultures.

So, mow the pits ladies. Please.

It most definitely is cultural. And as with most cultural things, Hollywood has been pretty influential the world over.

Taking it to the next step:

Quote:

Women Who Dye Their (Armpit) Hair

Destiny Moreno, who is 17, drove to a Sally Beauty Supply near her Seattle home last September with a newly hatched plan. She peppered a grandmotherly employee with questions about hair bleaches, developers and dyes, and the woman asked matter-of-factly if she were coloring her hair.

“I was like, ‘Oh, I’m dyeing my armpit hair,’ ” Ms. Moreno said. “She stared at me shellshocked for five seconds, and then she started laughing and was laughing throughout the entire interaction.”

She settled on Voodoo Blue by Manic Panic, and the next day posted a video on YouTube in which she wears a tank top and proudly raises her arms to show turquoise-colored armpit hair. The video has had more than 264,000 views. After she stopped shaving her underarms a few months before, Ms. Moreno drew plenty of negative comments, and dyeing her armpits bright colors — she has since also gone with hot pink, purple, green, neon yellow and orange — has been something of an act of defiance.

“Nobody questions when a guy wearing a tank top does a selfie that shows his armpit hair,” she said. “But if I happen to show my armpit hair in a selfie, it’s like, ‘Whoa, feminist witch asking for attention.’ ”

"TTIWWOP" you say?

Well, okay...

You can find them at he appropriately-titled Free Your Pits website.

Enjoy!

She does have a point there. It's a somewhat sexist social norm.

On a related note, what has become of pubic hair?

As an old ballad goes...

Quote:

'Twas the gatherin' of the clans
And all the Scots were there,
Skirling on the bagpipes
And stroking pussy hair.

That seems to be less and less possible these days.

That's true. These days, if you carry bagpipes, you ain't getting any.

Spent 4 years in Italy back in the 80's. I was a bit repulsed at first , going to the beach and seeing all that hair. But after a while, it just seemed normal to me.

I think we adjust. But the leg hair? Fuggedaboutit, Ladies, that stuff has got to go!

The women should do as they please and you as a sexist man should have no say one way of other over it.

That society expects females to behave according to the norm, whereas males can do what they want.

In this case society expects a man to not shave and a woman to shave. Those are different, but they are both expectations. It doesn't follow that a difference is sexist.

I have never seen anyone wrinkle his or her nose if a man shaves his armpits. On the other hand, if a female celebrity does not shave, this becomes headline news in the yellow press. Also, arguably the non-shaved status is the "natural" one where no action is necessary, which makes the situation less symmetric.

I'm not saying that this is a blatant case of sexism, but it has a sexist note to it.
