Both Fox and CNN have said only the top 10 will make the debates. We could see a pretty big name (Jindal, Santorum) sidelined by, say, Trump.

Once you get more than about 5 or 6, it's not really a debate any more.

Let's be be generous and say you schedule two hours for a debate.

So we start with 120 minutes.

Let's say 10% of the time is taken up by the moderator asking question. Now we're down to 108 minutes.

Divide that by ten candidates. Each get a little under 11 minutes to talk in the debate. The only sensible use of that 11 minutes really is to stick to focus-grouped, rehearsed phrases.

Whatever it is, you can't really claim to be a serious candidate if they don't invite you to it. And with 8 governors and 2 senators, you're going to have some 'serious' candidates on the cutting room floor. Not just Trump.

They should have two sets of debates
That is CNN's solution. First debate for the top 10 polling candidates. Second debate for everyone else that polls at least 1%.

They'd be better off selecting them at random so they don't end up with a debate full of no-hopers that nobody watches.

I knew focus-grouped, rehearsed phrases. Focus-grouped, rehearsed phrases are my friends. You, sir, are no focus-grouped, rehearsed phrases.

If y'all want fireworks, you need Walker, Jindal and Cruz, with a splash of Bush.

Replace Scott Walker with Rand Paul for even better fireworks. Bush is not needed.
