Interesting. From the rough timeline, they would have been at least 50+ years old when the became adopted as father and son. I am surprised that was allowed. I would have thought that there would be some sort of rule regarding timing of adoptions and the age of the people.

The fact that one partner could legally adopt the other but they weren't allowed to marry points out the stupidity of the law more than anything else.

HOLY CARP!!!
As far as interpersonal relationships go, "adoption" is no more "natural" than "marriage" (and vice versa). Live and let live, I say.

Yeah, nothing like screwing your twelve year old daughter, is there? Surely, 12 is old enough for consent, eh?

And as long as everybody loves everybody else, all is well...

It's not about live and let live.

If it was about live and let live nobody would have bothered to try to redefine marriage.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Adoption and marriage are two different things. You can probably find a wiki to help explain this.
