Having seen friends and neighbours have their houses repossessed due to not being able to find a new job at age 50, I remain unconvinced of how easy it is to find decent paying work just by looking.
Of course, owning a house in negative equity pretty much stops people being able to travel much.

Well done.

I'm getting very close and looking forward to trading it for something smaller.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Something is a lot netter than nothing, and it is always a lot better to have a job if you want to get a better one.
Your saying and believing that doesn't make it any more true. Look at the the examples I posted earlier. An irrelevant work history can and does hurt some people's prospects more than a gap in work history.
Oh, FFS, Aqua. Kincaid got a job that was totally relevant to his field, it just wasn't the money he'd like to make. Are you saying he'd have been better off to turn it down? I never advocated he go to work at Burger King.

Nice JB...

The best part comes next month (and every month thereafter) when you don't have to stroke the mortgage check.

We are two years out, and if it were not for instant liquidity I am tempted to just cut a check and pay it off.

Why paint the door red?
You paint the door red when the mortgage is paid off.

I was commenting on exactly what you said, Mik. This is what you said verbatim:

If you're in insurance, yes, it can hurt you to get a job at Burger King while you look for something to open up in insurance. In that particular example, it is not necessarily better to have a job if you want to get a better one.
I cite irreconcilable differences.
