The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I can tolerate about anyone but it is time for this miserable prick to go.
Yup, I have to agree with this. It's time to throw the bum out.

I personally believe Larry is a very upstanding guy. Back in the day, I joined PW to get info about buying a piano. I live right between Seattle and Vancouver BC where a piano salesman from Vancouver tried to convince me that his piano soundboards were properly "seasoned" where the one I was looking at in Seattle was not. I mentioned this on PW and Larry took the time to personally email me and let me know in no uncertain terms I was being fed a line of BS. He saved me from making a huge mistake and I am forever thankful. If I ever referred to Larry as an injun, it would only be in the most respectful and caring way possible.

Cheers,
Mark

I disagree. Unless we're making a special case for racially motivated attacks, we haven't had a history of ejecting people for personal attacks.

I recall a period some time ago when many personal attacks against members for their actual or supposed sexual preference were occurring. There was no call then to eject the perpertrator of those attacks. I don't seee any reason to change that policy now. If you want to avoid personal attacks, maybe WTF is the place to be.

Personally, I don't want Valdez to be be banned. I don't like what he says, but I don't like what other people have said on occasion either. I've complained about homophobic language used here in the past, and been accused of trying to censor free speech, even though I didn't ask for the person to be banned or moderated, I just asked them to stop using the language. I'd say the same thing to Valdez.

This isn't about whether we think Larry's an upstanding guy or not, it's about how we deal with people who say things we don't like.

Yeah, I'm not in favor of banning people either. He should just do himself and everyone else a favor and just go away. He can stick around too for all I care. I don't pay much attention to him anyway.

As I wrote the other day, the solution is to place him on "ignore".

It works well.

I'm a little confused.

Scenario 1: Someone signs up and begins posting about his British windows for sale. He doesn't bother to get to know anyone, he doesn't bother to introduce himself, he doesn't make any attempt to involve himself in the group in any way.... he just tells us about his windows for sale. No rudeness, no sarcasm... just "buy my windows".

So we ban him immediately for selling windows.. Or for not bothering to become part of the group? Which one - because we ban these guys instantly.

Scenario 2: A guy signs up and begins posting replies to thread topics, every single post he writes is sarcastic, and in the process he attacks members repeatedly. He also doesn't bother to get to know anyone, he doesn't bother to introduce himself, he doesn't make any attempt to involve himself in the group in any way.... he doesn't try to sell anything, he just takes a shit on anyone who dares say anything to him.

Yet we don't ban him, because...... we afford him the same privileges and courtesies that we afford people who have spent decades here, who *have* made efforts to get to know people, to let people get to know them, contributed in positive (and yes, negative) ways.....?

Is that how it works?

We've even had discussions in the past where we agreed to ban *sock puppets" who did that.

The problem is we ban him and then people whine and piss and moan every time someone is unpleasant asking why they can't be banned if we banned this guy. It is a lot easier just to ignore him. It's not like anyone puts much stock in anything he has to say as much. As I hate seeing him attack people I respect he's no more than a dingleberry compared to them.

We ban the Welsh Windows people since clearly they're just spammers. We don't ban people for being an ass. It's always been that way.

To be fair to Valdez, not everything he writes is abusive. He's pretty grating, and the patronizing know-it-all tone got old real fast, however we've had a few like that over the years.

Also, I don't think the idea of having time-served should be seen as allowance for acting like an asshole, even though admittedly it would guarantee me a place.

Anyway, it's not my call, I'm not a moderator. I'm just voicing an opinion. I've seen plenty of stuff posted here that I found personally offensive, and I'm sure I've posted plenty of stuff that other people didn't like much, some of it which I genuinely regret saying FWIW. If we start banning people for making racist remarks, then who's next on the list?

That loud mouth kid a not long ago had to go.

This genius probably deserves to be lynched, he has certainly asked for it.

I guess at the moment I don't care much either way. If larry wants a toy let him have it.

Valdez is only ignore-worthy. He's not worthy of any of our time, but if Larry wants to give him some earned abuse, that's fine by me.

You derailed this thread and tried to turn it into wounded knee because I used the word injun?
You call out Larry for derailing a thread, Mr. Engineer?

For f*ck's sake. Every other threat you post in has an insult in it. That's what derailing a thread is called.

And no, Brenda, he's not ignore-worthy. He's too much of a low-life, insulting people for no reason. He deserves to be called out - at least for now.

Crash always had to go. Too clever, too manipulative, too soulless.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Now I disagree with calling Crash soulless. Callous bravado of youth perhaps might be better. But here's a guy who fell in love with a hooker exotic dancer and could not quit her. Then he adjusts and meets a good woman and marries her. His music is beautiful.
