I work in the product certification business, and it's long been an in-joke that the 'CE' mark stands for 'Chinese Export'. The fact that so many EC Directives allow self-declaration rather than 3rd party certification somewhat undermines an adherence to the various laws that apply. Of course, the purpose of the CE mark is not to enforce safety, but to ensure the free-movement of goods within the EU, so it's probably not a surprise that this happens. |
