Lawn needs help...

I planted a new lawn in back last year. Rototilled the whole thing mixing in some compost and a bit of peat. Overseeded in a way that General Westmoreland would have been proud - regular seed and some of that guaranteed to grow on concrete seed. I even lightly covered with Miracle grow dirt. Watered like crazy and had good rainfall. Lawn came in great. Summer was not overly hot - but the lawn just didn't really take.

I'm about to try this all again. Wondering if I should just try sod this go round.

I run through my town - and see people with wonderful lawns - is it something about men over 50 that we fall in love with lawns? At 20, I couldn't care less. Now that I'm a geezer, I get wistful looking at nice lawns.

Did you roll the dirt down before you seeded? Maybe the soil is too loose.

Water, fertilizer and lime, in that order.

Get the cheap fertilizer at Lowe's, it is as good as the expensive Scott's. But Costco usually has the Scott's on sale for a better deal.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Too loose soil was what I was going to say too. The roots may not have had a proper medium to establish themselves in and to nourish from in this bad, bad winter.

We rolled it. I'm really hating doing this all over again.

Might have just been the bad winter.

Or maybe Mother Nature just never loved you.

I think my lawn needs help, too. It's all white.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Kluurs, Yes, lawns are nice. What state are you in?
Here in CA, most of us stopped watering our lawns, and they went brown. Then we had a little rain - very little rain- and they are somewhat green again, but most of us know not to water our lawns. We don't water, and with our water shortage, it is disappointing to see some people with their sprinklers on and lush beautiful lawns. We have also taken out some of our lawn for drought-tolerate plants.
