Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

My wife would object that most of this fancy 3D body imaging is actually not very useful for the experts.

We don't need to know any more about the sun. It comes up, it goes down, it warms the earth. The rest of that stuff about it is not very useful.

I know.. let's apply for a grant to study the sun's effect on global warming....

We could get MILLIONS!!!

Oh wait.... they wouldn't give us any money for that, because we might actually figure out the truth...

I imagine there are cases where it is very useful, and other cases where it doesn't improve much on a traditional cat scan.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

One advance begets another. Had we not gone to the moon we would not have discovered a thousand things we use every day.

Bach, you're a surgeon, right?

Would you find this fancy-schmancy new 3-D technology helpful? I think our vascular guys would find it useful for imaging aortas, carotids, etc.

yes also neuro would like it

wouldn't affect much genral surgery abdominal imaging, we have that down ok as it is I think.

as for breast, the big problem of highly sensitive imaging like breast MRI is the over sensitivity causes false positive findings leading to useless biopsies.

in breast imaging, sometimes less than perfect sensitivity is more practical and useful

In my case I have a somewhat unusual cardiovascular system. My carotids do not bifurcate, I have one on the left and two on the right. The way the vessels come off I believe my subclavian is different than most as well. I'm an X-Man.

I'd much rather they have this detailed imaging before I ever let anyone cut into those areas under the assumption that I'm just like everybody else.

bach, how common or rare is this sort of thing?

I'm an X-Man.
Me too! Whenever I try to get served in a busy pub I become completely invisible for a period of 15 minutes.

Not sure of the numbers, I'm not into vascular, but a quick search shows that carotid artery anomalous anatomy is not so rare, and has clinical significance mostly in head and neck surgery but otherwise it's not particularly alarming or rare.

Wise!

My ancestors gave the baby Jesus Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh - fresh from the exotic climbs of Lancashire. Yours were undoubtedly too busy worrying the local fauna to notice the big freaking star that hove into view.
