strange noises....

Mmmmmmm, pie!
For the last couple of days or so, every few hours I have heard a sudden, sharp, loud BOOM inside my house. I tried to figure out where it was coming from, but no luck.

This morning I had a construction engineer come out to make sure my house wasn't falling in somewhere..

The house is solid as a rock - but the best I could determine he thinks the sound is coming from deep in the ground around the house.

Limestone. Lots of underground caves here.

Think Lost Sea.... that's about 5 miles from my house.

Yes, that is one of the types of karst. Got sinkholes in your area? How close?

I just looked up Lost Sea. Yes, you are in an area of karst. Have you had your property checked for potential sinkhole development?

Have you heard mystery booms in the Midstate this week?

Well you are sure not alone! Some say it’s a weather phenomenon called cryoseismic booms, ice quakes or frost quakes. Others say it may be something more global…
Middle Tennessee – from Spring Hill, Columbia to Brentwood – has had the perfect weather to create the conditions required for cryoseisms. It has snowed abundantly and during the day, all of the snow and ice in the area melt. The moisture soaks and freezes into the ground. And when it freezes, water expands. And when the ice expands it sometimes create a loud boom, which can rattle and shake your house!

Though frost quakes are fairly common in other parts of the country, people in Middle Tennessee ran for cover, while some ran outside to see what was going on. Yes, you know, Tennessee sits right over the dangerous New Madrid Fault system. And quakes also emit loud booms… If it starts waking up… Then it’s a big mess!

I know of at least two sink holes on my farm, both in the woods. But they're nowhere near the house. Also several limestone bluffs jagging out of the ground, some with small cave openings visible...

But I'm not in Middle Tennessee, there's a mountain range between me and Nashville. I'm in the East Tennessee Valley, between the Cumberland Mountains and the Smoky Mountains, closest to the Smokies..

If this is happening in Middle TN and East TN both... ohsh!t

The experts say the loud booming noises are nothing to worry about.

If you have sinkholes that close, you may still want some reassurance that there isn't a problem under or near the house.

I live in a karst area, too. :)

The sinkholes are about half a mile from the house, in a stand of timber..

Could be the freeze cycle noises, or it could be something else. 'Tis a mystery!

Larry, the sinkholes around here, also an area of limestone karst, open up anywhere. It's happened in people's driveways, open fields, in cities, in the country, etc.

Yea... the experts also said ISIS was JV.

Maybe C03moR3d isn't that crazy after all. That sounds a heck of a lot like a beached Illuminati barge that's run aground in the Mississippi.
