I learned the proper way to cut a fresh pineapple. We had some for lunch with cottage cheese.

What new thing did you learn recently?

I learned that if you don't completely thaw a roast before you put it in a crockpot you'll have to wait until dinner to eat that juicy pot roast you wanted to eat for lunch.....

I learned that the exit for the West Side Highway coming off the GW Bridge is on the left side if you're on the lower level of the bridge. If you're on the upper level, which I usually take, its on the right.

The people around me learned how to deal with a guy changing multiple lanes on short notice...
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

It's so hard to wait for the crock pot to get a roast cooked. Now you can have a great dinner!

I learned that a really funny trailer for a movie doesn't guarantee a good movie.

I learned that The Bee does not like her wet food with beef in it.

Tuna, yes. Chicken, yes. Beef? Nope.

It was a Spongebob movie, so I wasn't expecting the Coen brothers, but the trailer had the whole cinema in stitches last Christmas. It looked as though they had done something really cool with it, but no.

So ... you buy the plane, put in the landing strip by the house, get your pilot license (see Copper), and life is good!

I learned the proper way to cut a fresh pineapple.

Did you know it takes 20-24 months to grow a pineapple?

I have 5 pineapple plants in my basement. One I bought last summer that had an almost ready-to-eat pineapple but the squirrel got it just when it was about ready to pick.

The other 4 are babies of the first. So if I can keep the squirrel away I might have 4 pineapples in only a year and a half.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I did not know that, Copper. I will appreciate the remaining pineapple slices all the more for knowing.

The pineapples come in for the winter.

The squirrel stays out so the hawk has food.

Only to get the squirrel, then it's right back out.

HOLY CARP!!!
I learned that John Quincy Adams turned the messy, indecisive War of 1812 into an American victory by outwitting the British during the negotiations for the Treaty of Ghent.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!
