There's no evidence, that we know about at the moment, to convict Brady, only speculation and imaginary probabilities.

If he wants to get a lawyer and fight it he should be able to tear Goodell to shreds.

Comparing this to a guy slugging his wife captured on video is nuts.

Please let me know my friend. Give me a case that I can't tear to shreds. I mean something reasonable. Something decided the way you thought it should be. Then let me try to tear it to shreds.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

You want me to prove a negative? I can't.

The problem is that Mr. Goodell can't prove the positive. He can just connect imaginary dots and probabilities. He has some cryptic text messages from several months before the game. He may have more than that but I'm not aware of it.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. What do you think? How long will he get? Three games? More?
Six, pleaded down to four.

It matters very little how many games. This matters. The big asterisk.

It's hilarious - you should have heard the awkward silence that fell over lunch at work when I said it was bloody obvious Brady cheated. Sports and politics allow people to disconnect their brains with no discernible problem at all.

If anybody should be ticked at Brady it should be the New England fans. If they truly believe it made no difference and had no effect on the game, then they should be pissed that he damaged their legacy for little or no real benefit.

My bet is they are scared, not of the possible punishment, but that there are legitimate concerns about the Patriots and the possibility that their legacy is one based completely about cheating.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I was joking about the ban and vacating the wins, but College athletes and programs have received this penalty for lesser infractions.

I'm with Shula on this, and I am in no way a Dolphins fan. Let's remember something, the full nature of the spy gate investigation has never been disclosed. Goodell destroyed the tapes, went into near apoplectic fits but never revealed the details. This is twice that they have been busted for cheating. It would be foolish to believe that there aren't others.

One thing that Goodell has done with consistency is hand down punishments worse than anybody expected. This cuts to the very perception of the NFL. Brady wanted his balls deflated, and Goodell is going to oblige in a wholly unanticipated way.

Shula should know better. Nobody has been busted for anything here.

He's no better than the looters in Baltimore where he helped the AFL become part of the NFL by being a loser.

I agree that this is a big deal. In baseball there's something known as the "steroid era". And people believe (rightly or wrongly) that it's past now. But the whole era has an asterisk. History may judge the Pat's Brady-Bellichick "dynasty" as an era with an asterisk as well. I think the facts support that. Too bad for them. Would have been interesting to see what they could have done within the confines of the rules.

Good point. I suspect the actual effect is negligible, but that's not relevant in my view.

I think the facts support that.

Except there are no facts and nothing to support.

Good point. I suspect the actual effect is negligible, but that's not relevant in my view.
Ultimately, the NFL deemed it enough of a competitive advantage to make it illegal.

When you say that you suspect the effect is negligible, which effect are you speaking of? Completion rate? What kind of effect could two more incompletions make in a game? Could 2-3 more interceptions in a season have an impact? What about the insanely low number of lost offensive fumbles that the Pats have experienced since the rules allowed them to have access to their own gameday footballs? Would a 10% lower PSI level mean the ball would be easier for the offensive players to grip and less likely to be knocked loose on contact? When it is knocked loose would it be more likely to be recovered by the offensive player since it wouldn't bounce as far and incidental contact wouldn't effect it as much? Would the lower PSI result in fewer "tip drills"? one of the leading causes of intrceptions is when the ball winds up being tipped into the air. Would reduced PSI effect the distance and heighth that a tipped ball could travel?

The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Sorry, but without any facts at all concerning Mr. Brady we'll just have to make stuff up.

An oblate spheroid bounces where it will.

A football with a bit less inflation is 1) easier to throw in cold weather, 2) easier to catch, 3) easier to hold on to and less prone to fumble, and 4)carries a little further when kicked.

Those are some nice facts. They make me think the rules should be changed so Mr. Brady could be even more awesome.

And a fact.

Read the article, if Mr. Shula goes looking for a punch in the jaw he is going to find one.

So Copper, do you have a rational explanation for what happened that doesn't involve both Brady and Belichick not cheating? Never mind the 'innocent until proven guilty' malarkey, can you go give us something that passes the giggle test?

I'm not even exactly sure what the accusation is.

That Mr. Brady possibly knew about the reduced air pressure, is that it?

My understanding is that there is no evidence of this.

If the ball boy had been reducing the air pressure all season (of which there is no evidence) I think it's easy to believe that Mr. Brady didn't know about it. If he is used to dealing with balls of varying pressure I doubt it was any big deal, he has other things on his mind.

If anyone gets any evidence at all that passes a giggle test I expect we'll hear about it.

As Goodell told the coach of the Saints (just before he suspended him for a year), "Ignorance is no excuse".

This isn't a court. Evidence does not have to be absolute...Think of it more as a French Court, where you're guilty until proven innocent.

Mr. Goodell evidently disagrees. Innocent until proven guilty does not apply in civil cases nor in business decision in a monopoly suh as the NFL. It would be the preponderance of the evidence. Testimony of those involved and the corresponding messages would seem sufficient.
