NFL confirms it's looking into the matter of deflated footballs in AFC title game

Matt Levin, who writes of Wall Street stuff for Bloomberg view, couldn't help but touch on the scandal. I love his conclusion.

Ballghazi is Real

A little off our usual subjects here, but the 234-page report on the Patriots' deflation of footballs is pretty irresistible. One thing about Ballghazi is that it is a pretty low-tech scandal: Everything can be done with a football, a needle, a nod and a wink. No complicated system of permanent electronic recording is required. If you're going to do something wrong, low-tech is good.

But then they went and texted each other about it! Texts like "I have a big needle for u this week" and (of Tom Brady) "The only thing deflating sun..is his passing rating." Just don't do that, man. They had committed the perfect crime, but they couldn't resist the siren call of constantly recording all of their misdeeds in permanent misspelled electronic form. It is the great curse of modernity, for criminals. There are very important lessons here for would-be Libor manipulators.

Probable and Probably

In either case Jim McNally and John Jastremski are now and forever heroic figures in New England.

They deserve a nice gofundme.com.
I agree that New England will save its hate for two middle class townies caught up in something their jobs almost certainly depended on, and continue to worship a native Californian who, through relentless cheating, managed to steal a few championships for them.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Lil' cheatin' Tommy, today: "I have nothing to say at this time. Sometime in the future I'll respond, and I'll certainly want to feel comfortable about the statements I make."

He does have a certain low animal cunning, I'll grant that. He's seen Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun, etc. They all have one thing in common: they permanently and meaningfully tarnished their public legacy with their adamant denials which were eventually proven to be lies. Lies that often directly harmed other people.

Lil' cheatin' Tommy knows there's always a possibility that one of the two blue collar townies he coerced into serving him, will confess (even more than they effectively already have, through their willingness to share the text messages). He's not going to double down right now. In fact, if he did, he'd join Lance Armstrong et al in directly harming other people, in his case the two townies, with his self serving denials. He's smart enough not to do that right now. It could even motivate them to confess, just to get back at him. So Bostonians might want to back off their hate of the two guys, because that might motivate them, too.

See, all hyper-competitive people (as Lil' cheatin' Tommy is well known to be) are deeply insecure way down deep. They have a hollow that can only be filled by a direct visceral sense of "winning". But it can never be filled. It's just insatiable.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Suspended?
Quote:

Roger Goodell's decision is expected to be announced next week and it is no longer a matter of if the NFL commissioner will suspend Brady, but for how long he will suspend him.

In conversations I've had with several key sources who always have a good sense of what goes on at 345 Park Avenue, there is little doubt Goodell considers Brady's role in DeflateGate a serious violation.

The NFL is convinced, according to sources, that connecting all the dots of the evidence supplied by Wells leads to one conclusion:

Brady cheated.

Now the next step is for every quarterback in the NFL who has ever doctored a ball, because that is how it has always been done, to come to Mr. Brady's defense.

Why would they come to his defense when they legally doctored the ball? They are allowed to do whatever they want to the ball before the referee inspection. If it passes great. If it doesn't, then move on. To doctor the ball after the inspection? That's a different story.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

For crying out loud, the equipment guy gave himself the nickname "The Deflater". And he was calling himself that months before the AFC Championship Game.

No, the balls passed the official pregame inspection and the pressure was within approved range. They were given the official seal. Shortly before gametime, the balls disappeared from the officials locker room. A search was initiated, and eventually they were found with the equipment manager nicknamed the Deflater. Video from the stadium shows him taking the balls from the locker room, taking them into a small private bathroom for a little over a minute and a half. That is when it's believed the balls were illegally altered.

This is a very easy problem to fix, from here on out...in MLB, the umpires control all of the balls. Just do the same for the NFL. Let the refs be responsible for the balls.

Couple of former teammates of Brady's discuss it.

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12848278

Bruschi is completely blinded by his loyalty to his friend and is another casualty of Brady's cheating and lying.

But it puts into perspective why Brady is terrified of telling the truth. He is going to disappoint a lot of people close to him.

They have been laying the hammer down when it comes to punishment. My guess is lifetime ban and they vacate the wins.

Good question.

Some perspective: What's worse, gambling on the outcome of games or giving your team an advantage by (supposedly) making the ball easier to grip and catch?

There's no evidence, that we know about at the moment, to convict Brady, only speculation and imaginary probabilities.

If he wants to get a lawyer and fight it he should be able to tear Goodell to shreds.

Comparing this to a guy slugging his wife captured on video is nuts.
