One of my very favorite performers. The lovely bride and I had the opportunity to see him in person on the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium just after his 93rd birthday last year. I was so very impressed that he was able to still perform at his age and although clearly slower than he once was, still thrilled the audience. May he be carried home on the wings of The Bird of Paradise.

His greatest hit went to #1 on the country chart in 1965.

Met him a couple of times. Seemed like a really nice, down to earth guy, but with a twinkle in his eye.

I took the kids to the Opry when they were 12 and 14 and Jimmy Dickens was was in the show. They rolled their eyes when he came on stage but laughed harder than anyone at his jokes and is the only performer they can remember from that night.

RIP, Jimmy. You entertained more folks than you ever knew.
