On my iPad it shows "inbox -1" meaning there is an unread message, however, there is no unread message for me to click on.

On the iMac, it has the same "inbox-1" WITH a bold message for me to click on to read.

The message that is unread is a "hangout with S" from gmail chat that we were doing on a iMac.

Would this make a difference in me not being to open that message on an iPad, even though it displays clearly that I have an unread e-mail in the inbox? If that is the case, why does the iPad even display that I have something in my inbox that is not read?

Thanks.

Though I know a fair amount about Macs, etc., I am a total idiot when it comes to email settings, etc. Wish I could help, but...

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

One thing I noticed about GMail on the client I use on the PC is that it will correctly tell me that I have unread mail. But when I read it it won't immediately change the status to 'read' in the notification. It will only change the status when I do a refresh from GMail after reading.

Try downloading/refreshing your GMail and see if that makes the notification go away.

My guess is that it doesn't establish a session with GMail as soon as I read the mail, it waits until the next time I tell it to check my mail then it updates the status and the notification goes away.

Copper -- that isn't the situation here. There is unread e-mail showing on the iMac, with the ability for me to open it to read. On the iPad, it says there is unread e-mail, however it is not displayed for me to click on it.

Do you have multiple accounts? The other account may have the unread mail.

Or the unread mail may not be in the In Box. It could be in the deleted box or some other folder.

ZOOOOOM!
ILM,

I have a similar problem all the time with my work e-mail. The server was set up by a guy in a big hurry and is seriously glitchy. It won't let me delete messages using my iPhone, so a read message will then be forever marked as unread until I delete it from my work computer.

Not the same scenario, I know, but sometimes it has to do with how your iPad interacts with different mail servers.
I cite irreconcilable differences.
