An official with the transport ministry, Hadi Mustofa, told local media the plane lost contact over the Java Sea, which lies between Surabaya and Singapore.

He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact.

Not sure what this means. Initial "details" can be rather misleading.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Wow. 2014 goes out with a bang.

We were watching CBS Sunday Morning. The annual piece on who died this year went on 20 full minutes. Sad.

They're saying bad weather. Pilot asked for alternate route and altitude.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

It's been found: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2890541/Indonesian-warship-sent-test-oil-spills-sea-missing-AirAsia-jet-came-s-revealed-pilot-denied-request-climb-stormy-weather.html

Nobody seems to be discussing the fact that the body is stripped down to the underwear. I'm wondering if some might have survived the crash? I'm pretty sure that nobody could take off their clothes after they are dead... They have found a door floating among the debris, as well as a life raft and life vests...
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

If the guy was thrown out of an airplane going 500 MPH it's surprising there is any clothing left.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

So it looks like the plane suffered catastrophic structural damage before the crash? It basically came apart mid-air?

A strong thunderstorm might do that.

We'll get a good idea about that when we get the flight recorder data.
