For those of us who do work associated with the oil industry, these prices are not particularly good news. I dare say it will self-correct pretty quickly, people didn't get to be oil barons by being idiots - well, maybe a couple of them did. |

I'm saying I don't know. What I will do, is give you the same advice I've given my kids: 1. Never consider only the salary, when looking for a job. Look at the entire plate - salary, benefits and retirement. 2. If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. 3. Sadly, most of us don't love what we do, that's why it's called work. If you can, find something you like. Failing that, find something you can stand. Remember, when you have responsibilities, you can put up with a certain level of crap. 4. Don't burn bridges. If you leave a job, leave on good terms. That butt you'd like to kick, maybe the one you have to kiss tomorrow. 5. Achieve financial independence as soon as possible and keep at least six months take-home wages at your fingertips. debt limits choices. |

How many jobs with great medical benefits are there in the US? Not nearly enough to give all or even most of the population access to healthcare. Do you consider that "good enough"? |

Riley, this is the age old argument - what should be provided for me versus what do I need to do to provide what I need. There are many, many jobs in the US that provide very good health benefits. |

My daughter is a school teacher. Her health insurance is about $120/month. My son works for Apple. I don't think his insurance is as much as hers, and it's better coverage. Even full-time guys at WalMart have pretty decent healthcare coverage. |

You're wrong on all counts. Jolly, too. First of all, there is no "argument." On the liberal side of the aisle, people believe that government exists to provide services to its citizens. Some of these services are so important to us, that we're willing to run them at a loss just to maintain them. These include for example fire departments and social services. A great many of these services are provided under the umbrella of maintaining the safety and security of its citizenry. Of course health care coverage would fall under that. Those on the conservative side of the aisle like to talk about an individual's contribution to society, or human resources. Well I'm sorry, it's bloody obvious what you can do here: sick people can't work. If they can't work, they can't contribute to society. So if you perform a cost-benefit analysis and determine that the cost of making this person fit to work is less than his annual salary, society gains by covering his health care needs. There is no argument against some form of socialized health care. The details can always be argued, but the very idea of it is something that other countries with far more political perspectives than our two-party bullshit have all come to terms with. The only argument against is greed, plain and simple. People don't want to pay to make other people better. That's all it is once you boil it down. As to your second argument: Jolly, believe it or not I have a good job, and my resume is very good. As for my work experience, you don't even know half the shit I've done to stay employed so let's just not go there. My problem has nothing to do with that. One of the changes that ACA has made is that insurance companies can no longer give different clients different rates based on their age. So for people like you and Mik, if anything, your insurance rates can expect to go down. For people like me, well, I scoured the health care marketplace for a long time a month or so back. It's not my insurance that sucks, it's all incredibly expensive now. My employers actually did a good job finding the best deal they could with a company that also provided the most coverage; I ended up sticking with what I had. So you can stop with this "America offers fantastic health benefits" horseshit, because for younger people, especially those who are just trying to start their careers, it's not true anymore. Many of them are baring the brunt of this. |

There is such glut of oil on the global market prices could stay low for some time. I am actually glad to see the correction; it ought to, but probably won't over the long run, force the elected donkeys running this province and country to face reality and address years of poor resource and overall fiscal management. Blended Canadian select crude sells for about 16 USD below West Texas light. In order make a profit here producers need West Texas at about 70 USD bbl. I do however feel sorry for folks carrying any sort of debt. It will get ugly, probably uglier than in the '80 whe oil was less than 10 USD bbl. |

Yep. You sure are. And that is what we tried to tell you wayyyy back in 2010. That the relatively stable employer provided model of health insurance would be decimated, and it is well on its way. That rates would go up, which they have. But fear not, when you become unemployed you can get Medicaid, which pays providers, well, pretty much nothing. For which you will receive, pretty much nothing. Bare bones. In any event, when you get to apportioning blame, look not to the right. We tried to tell you. With any luck we might be able to make it better. But you can bet that for the next two years, the guy who has been whining about the Congress not doing his bidding will suddenly become Dr. No. And you can bet your sweet ass there is a GKSR for that. |

Well goody for you. I wasn't an ACA supporter so I don't know where you think you're scoring points here, unless we're playing I Told You So. In which case that doesn't really do much to refute what I was saying about the only argument against socialized medicine. |

What did I just say? You're actually going to revert back to some political mantra? I just said the problem lies in how ACA has changed how companies can charge its clients for the same coverage. What I'm calling conservatives out on is more general and unrelated: that they're using their own personal greed to justify their stance on any form of socialized medicine. Which you still have yet to refute. |

It's not all about age, the bill was enormous. There's litigation still going on right now with people trying to determine how to enact all the changes. All I can vouch for is how it's affected my own situation. I still know comparatively little about the whole thing. |

Conservatives like to be able to pay for the social services government offers. The pie is not unlimited. Y'all want more healthcare? Ok, let's ditch Headstart. Abolish the Department of Education. Implement meaningful tax reform and cut the IRS by 60% I could go on, but I think y'all get the message...If you want it, pay for it. |

That's the general idea, yeah. I have no problem returning education to the state level. But we should also cut a hell of a lot out of defense and remove tax shelters so that we are all truly paying for it. As for me, take everything I'm giving to my insurer and put it instead toward a social program. |

You got it backwards, man. Cutting the IRS is cutting your collection operation. You cannot effectively realize the intake of revenue if you cannot effectively collect. Headstart and DoE are chicken feed. You want to cut the bug cheese, like the DoD, to really make the numbers work. Srsly, as far as resource allocation goes, why would you even prioritize the ability to fight two major global military conflicts over the healthcare (or education) of your own citizens? |
