Many people have jobs which require acts of heroism sometimes. Firefighters risking their lives by saving someone in a burning building, or a police officer risking his/her life to protect innocent lives are just a couple of examples. Yet when someone who risks his or her life to save another, they'll often say "I was just doing my job." I say that's nonsense! Just because a person has a job that requires them to sometimes risk their lives to save others doesn't make them any less of a hero if they risk their lives to save another. I say they're just being modest. |

You calling them liars? ![]() Wow, what an incredible insight! So which is it? Were they lying? Were they being modest? Were they lying to appear modest? Is modesty just another socially acceptable motive for lying? |

I have to deal with obstreperous administrative staff on a regular basis, and nobody calls me heroic. They're way more dangerous than some burning building. |
