You know, I think there are two Americas, now.

One is coastal. Urban. Affluent.

The other is "fly-over" country. More rural, but with some fairly large cities. Not as affluent, but more grounded.
They're both pretty freaking delusional and like any real American, they think they're at the center of the Universe.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Nah, if I was delusional, I'd think I was Christie Brinkley.

From my personal experience (admittedly in namby-pamby New England rather than 'real America') there's a lot of Americans who don't really care that much about guns, however the squeaky wheels are very, very squeaky indeed.
Then perhaps you need to live in the real America for awhile.
I've already emigrated twice, I think I've seen enough to be going on with.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

JD, those two emigrations don't count. You see, they're not sufficiently exceptional to warrant any gainful insight into the true meaning of living and breathing free on the shores of America.
