He had said this right after the shutdown ended, but it's good to see he's repeating it still to a private and important audience.

McConnell doesn't control the House.
True, but its hard to imagine he and Boehner haven't talked about strategies for Jan/Feb.

At this point the GOP should just use the weight of Obamacare against itself - political jujitsu if you will. That would be a better strategy than Shutdown II. I'm sure that's what they'll try to do. Indeed, thats what these organized heckling sessions hearings are all about anyway.

Yeah, but if Boehner didn't control the house we wouldn't have had a shutdown.

Remember, there were always enough votes in the house for a clean CR and a clean DL raise. It was Boehner that prevented a vote through an ad hoc rule change specifically designed to prevent such a vote.

All those tea party apologists waxing poetic during the shutdown about 'the constitutional role of the house' seemed to have glossed over that.

Last I checked, Denny Hastert wasn't a founding father, and the Hastert rule is absent from my read of the Federalist papers. The constitutions drafters arguably envisioned a more powerful House than we now have, but they most certainly did not envision it to be controlled by a minority faction.

I was going to make a comment about herding cats, however cats are less self-serving so it wouldn't really be fair.

If the idiots didn't spend all the money there would be no shutdown threat.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

True, if you don't exceed the limit then you don't have a fight about exceeding the limit.

You can ignore that fact and toss insults, but that doesn't change the fact.

You still have a CR/budget battle, which is what led to the shutdown.

You can change the topic but that doesn't change the fact either.

You can be ignorant but the facts remaim the same. The shutdown was a result of the CR battle. That battle would have existed even if we were rumning a surplus. Its the DL lift that wouldnt have occurred in a surplus scenario, but thats not what led to the shutdown.

You can talk about the CR all you want but that doesn't change the fact that Mr. McConnell was talking about the coming battle over the debt ceiling and defaulting on debts.

So let me repeat, if the idiots didn't spend all the money there would be no shutdown threat.

You mean the article headlined "Mitch McConnell tells donors: No more shutdowns" which starts off with the sentence "Mitch McConnell isn’t going to have another government shutdown on his watch." wasn't about shutdowns.

Okey dokey.

I asked google about it, if that makes you feel any better.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?
