I upgraded a couple days ago. OK, so far.

One problem that turned up is that I can no longer simulate a device running iOS 5.1 or lower. That's no big deal unless you are an App developer who would like to continue supporting the original iPad. Apple really wants people with the original iPad to throw it away and upgrade. They won't let owners upgrade past iOS 5.1 and now they won't even let it be emulated.

If you do not have any specific reason to upgrade, I'd suggest staying put with your current version for another month or two (let early adopters like Copper discover the bugs) and then reassess whether to upgrade. ;)

As a free upgrade that gives you more apps, improved features across the board, and better performance, there is really no reason not to get Mavericks on your Mac.

The good: Mac OS X Mavericks gives you new apps, streamlines familiar features, and adds battery life for laptop users with better power efficiency.

The bad: Older features like Gatekeeper and Launchpad could have used some renovations, but were left untouched in Mavericks.

The bottom line: As a free upgrade that gives you more apps, improved features across the board, and better performance, there is really no reason not to get Mavericks on your Mac.

After a number of years they finally figured out a driver for my monitor - an HP w2408h not anything exotic.

The Activity Monitor has dropped the simple graphic showing Memory Usage and now has something called "Memory Pressure". Come on man, just show me the stupid numbers.

The monitor also now shows power usage but calls it "Energy". OK, I get it, but come on.

I think emulation has something to do with setting yourself on fire to protest stuff.

"Memory pressure" probably has to do with Maverick compressing memory. I hope the "top" command line utility still shows the raw numbers.

"Energy" instead of "power" ... yeah, that sounds stupid.

No problems thus far.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!
