We're thinking of getting a freezer. First thought was something not too big, probably not full sized.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Get a used fridge with a freezer, maybe side by side. The extra fridge space will come in handy too.

Uprights are more convenient than chest types. Chest types keep food longer and are generally cheaper.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_55792-83-FCM7SUWW_0__?productId=3376286&Ntt=chest+freezer&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dchest%2Bfreezer&facetInfo=

If you don't need a ton of space, this costs only $20 more than a 5 cubic foot, and burns almost no more electricity for the extra volume. If it doesn't come with baskets, get two.

That's the most freezer for the money.

Jon, welcome to the TNCR freezer owners club. I have a number of them in my basement. I've found they're a great way to solve family arguments over the fact that the regular fridge is completely filled with my ongoing experiments.

Since I bought the chest freezers I still get to keep my experiments in the fridge, but I no longer hear any complaints from family members.
Revenge is a dish best served cold. The interior of my chest freezer is very, very cold

Perhaps you'll check out the Jeffrey Dahmer signature edition by Kelvinator.

It's the only freezer on the market that seats six.

Jon, is this a true confessions thread?

Hi, my name is Brenda, and I have a lot of freezers.

We have our kitchen fridge and freezer. We have a second fridge and freezer in the walk-in pantry. We have a large upright freezer in the pantry and another one in the basement.

We tend to buy our meat in bulk. We get half a beef and a whole hog when we buy. Oh and eight or more whole chickens. And we buy a whole year of fish each June. And I like to freeze lots of fresh fruit when it's in season.

Hubby keeps his beers in the pantry fridge, and we store other large fruit in there during the summer, and bags of apples in the fall. And the sodas go in there.

And now you know all my secrets.

Go to the back room of the appliance store and get a scratch and dent model. No, that's not another name for Aqua's sister.

How much does it cost to run a freezer for a month?
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Frigidaire, frost free, light inside, alarm for open door, temperature display on outside door, quick freeze option, shelves and bins, and bigger than you think you need because you will find yourself using it more than you expected.

So you have two fridges and four freezers? Wow.

Brenda, I have to ask you a few serious questions.

1. Do you lose time from work due to your freezing?

2. Is freezing making your home life unhappy?

3. Do you freeze because you are shy with other people?

4. Is freezing affecting your reputation?

5. Have you ever felt remorse after freezing?

6. Have you gotten into financial difficulties as a result of your freezing?

7. Do you turn to lower companions and an inferior environment when freezing?

8. Does your freezing make you careless of your family's welfare?

9. Has your ambition decreased since freezing?

10. Do you crave to freeze something at a definite time daily?

11. Do you want to freeze again the next morning?

12. Does freezing cause you to have difficulty in sleeping?

13. Has your efficiency decreased since freezing?

14. Is freezing jeopardizing your job or business?

15. Do you freeze to escape from worries or troubles?

16. Do you freeze alone?

17. Have you ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of your freezing?

18. Has your physician ever treated you for freezing?

19. Do you freeze to build up your self-confidence?

20. Have you ever been in a hospital or institution on account of freezing?

Just one.... Make sure to put it on the front porch. Your neighbors will LOVE it...
Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

The money one can save in alimony payments alone completely dwarfs any cost considerations.

Funny, I've been looking at this one:

http://t.homedepot.com/p/Frigidaire-20-5-cu-ft-Upright-Freezer-in-White-FKFH21F7HW/203540845?N=c3p0Z75h

I was looking at a smaller, cheaper Maytag. But the Frigidaire can handle placement in the garage, most brands I've checked can't.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Didn't know you were looking at one that big.

That'll handle a whole hog or half a cow, with ease. Probably even a whole cow.

That's going to be at the national average electricity rate of 8 cents/KWH. Here in Edison country it's about 2.5 times that and SDG&E gets about 3X that.

YMMV.

Didn't know you were looking at one that big.
I wasn't.

I talked myself out of a chest freezer because of the inconvenience of the form. Then in the stand-ups all the smaller ones I've looked at can't be operated with ambient temps under 40F.

But I'm still looking.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Yes, Klaus, we have two refrigerators with the small freezers, and we have two big upright freezers. That's why I asked if this was a confessions thread. :lol2:

Jon, yeah!!! Go for that big one!!! You'll be glad you did. Let me know when you're ready to buy a second one, too. :)
