In northern VA it is $100 for an overnight. For 45 minutes it is $34.

Anybody paying 1k/month for dog walkers is doing so because they want to rather than because they have to. The article goes far out of its way, and out of reality, to claim the need for that.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Are you saying there are cheaper dog walkers, or they aren't needed?

Someone needs to walk Sir. Muffins when you're out at work 14 hours a day leaving him in your 67 square foot apartment on the 832nd floor.

I'm saying they aren't needed. You can take your dog out before and after work and it's fine.

That may well be true. Closest I've come to having a dog is making Aqua's sister bark for it while on all fours.

Ok, ok. Letting, not making.

How do we not have an Aqua's Sister sock puppet by now?

I mean, other than Tuesday nights at Jon's place?

Depends an awful lot on the breed and age. Walking the dog is about a lot more than potty breaks. Last thing you want in your house is an under exercised dog.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Mine spends his alone time in a fenced off spare bedroom, with all his toys. He can't do any damage while he's alone, even if he wants to. I've learned the hard way that I can't (yet) give him free reign of the house while he's alone. I have some wall repairs to do, along with figuring out how to repair a chewed up stair banister.

Of course, if you google this sort of thing, inevitably the cause is a lack of exercise. It's always a morality play for the owner. But I'm not sure it's that simple. Dogs will be naughty sometimes and they don't like being left alone.

I used to have a cockatiel, and he was about as inexpensive to own as it gets when it comes to pets. And he was just as entertaining as any pet dog is.

to be honest and no offence but i personally can NOT understand why people in high rise apartments 'need' a dog one that spends most of its time locked in a small cage while the owners are 'away'

just because you CAN have a dog doesnt mean you SHOULD have one and if you cant spend quality time with it outside in the fresh air DONT get one

nothing infuriates me more then owners who stick their 'family member' inside a cage locked inside all day and then bitch they have a problem dog with issues and poor dog ends up paying for it by being dumped, let go to become feral or signed over to someone else or an agency

and i dont care what the 'experts' recommend dogs dont need feeding twice a day, unless puppies, if fed properly in the first place, mine always had one meal a day and were always well fed and healthy....remember what 'expert' means.....ex (no longer relevant) and spurt (under pressure)

Just because you live in an apartment doesn't mean you need to keep your dog in a cage.

Keeping a dog in a cage is rarely if ever necessary. Personally I line the walls of a spare room with fencing so that he can't chew up the drywall. But even if I didn't have an entire spare room I could put a large indoor fenced area somewhere.
