There's a very good reason for not allowing cell phones to be used. The cost of a phone call or internet they charge from the plane. |

Yeah, but you know, I'm totally fine with paying that. For fifteen dollars, you can be on FaceTime, play against Alec Baldwin on Words with Friends and watch Magnum P.I. on your phone, while hurdling 375 MPH through space. I mean, you can Instagram pictures of the Grand Canyon as you fly over it. That's worth fifteen or twenty bucks easy. My only beef with it is where the money goes to. I'd rather it go to Tim Berners-Lee than some douche telecom company. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

Yet they don't rely on airline Wi-Fi payments to pay for them. You're paying for the convenience and what the airlines can get away with charging you, not for the fair market value of what the service costs. |

Entirely untrue. There are countless ways to set prices, some much more scrupulous than others. That's just basic. |

OK, technically fair market value is what a reasonable buyer is willing to pay, that's pretty close to what the seller can get away with. But in either case scruples are beside the point. |

That's why I have a problem with capitalism. I see plenty of instances in which companies are exploiting some sort of situation to make more money, instead of charging what it costs them to run their business. |

To run a business you need profit, not just cost recovery. There is always a rainy day. That's how government contractors pay employees during shutdowns. |

It's nice of you to bring that conversation back up, but you should have done so in a way that makes it sound like you know what you're talking about. The agreement contractors have with various agencies is largely dependent on what agencies are authorized to do through Congressional mandate and OMB. Contractors have to take it or leave it. So if they work for an agency that is not authorized to pay contractors through the shutdown, then the contractors don't get paid. Your ridiculous suggestion about squirreling money away by charging higher rates for their billable hours will just lead to losing contracts. Fallout from that is exactly how I got my job previously this year. I suppose the next step is for you to post inappropriate links about my family. Or we can go back to talking about product pricing, it's up to you. |

It certainly beats having to pay $25 to check a case. The real problem is people not being able to cope with having their toys taken away from them for 10 minutes. They must have been spoiled as children. |

You want to go to personal insults over that? Not even close. I spent many years working as a government contractor. I help put together the largest federal government IT contract ever - a long time ago. Believe me, government contractors make profit - lot's of it. And they squirrel it away to do all sorts of things. Just because the government doesn't pay doesn't mean the company employing the contractor isn't allowed to pay. Corporate profit is good, really. You should go earn some, you would like it. And you can do whatever you want with it. Why in the world would you want to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about? Having a few drinks with your friends complaining about the shutdown doesn't count as knowing what you are talking about. jd seems to be insulting today, maybe you could stir something up with him. |

Not counting me and smart phone users and Mitt Romney and California residents and the tea party and conservatives and Mr. Bush and Fox News and a little girl who lost her pony. Mr. Romney and Mr. Bush are fair game and I'm here of my own free will, but the little girl in tears did nothing to deserve that. |

Oh, it's not the 10 minutes of not using the phone, see. It's the 10 seconds of turning it off and on. Because that's what I've calculated the value of turning it off and on to be - less than the value of 10 seconds of my time, while I do nothing. |
