No, a polite society is a polite society, be it armed or not.

And ghettos are not polite and very armed.

The SUV driver made a mistake. He should have simply displayed his gun, the confrontation would have ended and he could have returned to his celebration, no big deal.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

the SUV drivers mistake was getting of the Henry Hudson towards 178th street. He should have stayed on the left, gone up the ramp to the GWB and there would have easily been a port authority police presence on the bridge or at least near the tolls on the jersey side.

that's what I would have done. Never to go in to NYC streets. of course u will have to stop for traffic or lights.

I watched one of the bike club members saying that the driver of the SUV should have simply shared his information with the rider that he had struck (when the biker purposely maneuvered in front and was suddenly slowing).

Yes, that is exactly what I would do, roll down my window to exchange info while my car is surrounded and being beat upon and someone has a knife out trying to slash my tires. :rolleyes2:

I place no blame on a guy trying to defend his family like that.

A. I don't mind bikers. It's their road, just like it's mine and I hope they enjoy the ride.

B. These bikers aren't the good guys, though. They provoked this confrontation and should suffer the consequences.

C. Someone at WTF suggested a .38 snubbie. A .38 snub is a "get off of me" weapon. This case reminds me of the old addage, bring enough gun. A nice Glock would have been a bit more effective.

D. Some people are dangerously stupid or educated beyond their intelligence, if they think the simple right to self defense is given to man by the U.S. Constitution or any other man-made document. I don't care what the laws state in New York - they're wrong.

If you can find a grand jury that would bring a True Bill against this man for defending his family, the grand jury needs to be shot, before they can reproduce anymore idiots with the same defective genetic make-up...

An armed society is a polite society...
Louisiana has 9.6 murders per 100,000. New York has 4.4.

Apparently, courtesy doesn't cost nothing after all.

New York - 18%, Louisiana - 44%

Of course the spicy food or intolerable politeness might have something to do with the fact that they kill each other so much, so we really need a control group.

Some of the riders might have had guns too - would have just been a gun battle with a woman and child in the car - might not have been good - and some pedestrians taken out as well. In my idea of heaven, a c130 with its 20mm computer directed Gatling guns would have been the ideal tool for those guys. Just hose down the streets afterward.

To be fair Jolly, I thought the same thing, I would have wanted a Glock in such a situation - but if it turned into a gunfight with some of the 50 thugs being armed - could have been uglier. Even if he blew away a couple of the people by the car, he still wouldn't have been in the clear.

Blowing someone's brains out all over a grimy city street, tends to take the starch out of the most zealous of mobs. Most people think of themselves as immortal.

It's a very rude shock to find out one isn't.

As for the possibility that other riders may have had guns...At this point, your life is moot and so most likely is your family's. You can either die like sheep or fight.

Personally, if I'm gonna die, I'd like a little company on the way...

We're very polite where I live and nobody carries guns. Gun crime is pretty rare, too, with the recent exception of knobhead NFL players (allegedly) blowing people away.

Yeah, it appears some of the bikers were carrying concealed weapons. Don't know if they were firearms, but things might have turned out much worse had the driver pulled a gun.

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

Several off duty cops among the bikers, and it sounds like one of them will be arrested.

Well obviously, compared to Canadians we're a total bunch of assholes, but you chaps are world-leaders at politeness, which rather throws a monkey-wrench in the 'armed society is a polite society' theory suggested earlier.

Wait, when presented with a choice between allegiance to their gang and allegiance to the law, those cops choose allegiance to their gang?

I guess there's a first time for everything.

These weekend "biker gangs" are so funny. A bunch of middle class white guys with wives and kids and 9 to 5 desk jobs, who want to play dress-up on the weekends to pretend to be something they're not. It's not surprising that when actually called on to be tough, it ends with one of them paralyzed, and a few more being sent to prison. All in the service of bullying some Asian guy driving his family around. At least in prison, they'll have a playing field where they can really prove their toughness.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?
