Years ago, if you wanted to sell land in the South, for Gawd's sake, don't tell them you had a plantation home on the land. I know of one case where they cut the road to the house with a dozer, let everything grow up around it and the only way a casual observer would know a plantation home was on the land, would be to fly over it.

The problem was the money it takes to keep up a plantation home.

I suspect the same reason is why these castles are so cheap. They aren't money pits, but the bowels of money-consumimg hells...

Well, those castles may require an investment of 10x their price before they can be used properly, which makes the comparison a little dubious.
