This article, most of all this (short) video, are deeply upsetting and persuasive about the extreme wrongness of this strange, terrible, legal provision in the State of CA. Many of the offenders incarcerated under this law, are non-violent drug offenders - disproportionately, the poor, mentally ill and minorities. Presently, there are 4,000 such inmates there are serving life sentences. Like most, I figure I can't learn about every injustice but as little as I can do, I'm glad I learned about this one. The cost to the system must be astronomical and considering how harmless the inmates are, and the cost to their families (OK, the ones who have families) makes this about as wrong as it gets. Of course, he was hand-picked, but this video of Shane Taylor, his family and even the judge who condemned him (a "Goldwater Republican", he apologizes), are to me irrefutable evidence that this law needs to be revoked - and instantaneously. I simply can't imagine what they were thinking when it was passed. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10...es-of-injustice.html . Edited by Amanda, Oct 9 2012, 10:35 PM.
