Hope it's a good weekend for you all. We've lucked out with glorious, non-rainy weather; a real treat for us west coasters. Looking forward to a good turkey feast (kinda off the ol' beef right now :P )

I have a painting class tomorrow morning, then nothing major for the rest of the weekend. Get my Sunday off, nice break.

A toast to you all

And a happy thanksgiving to you too Sue! And to Renauda, Riley, NPP, Jamie, and who did I forget? .. 'Am sorry if I did.

Being an Albertan in the midst of a beef crisis, I sourced out my own slab of cow for the weekend. There's only 6 of us so I think a 4 rib roast should do. Yukon Gold mashed, green beans from north of here, and store bought pumpkin pie. The wine has been purchased but I don't know if it's red or white. We don't care. It's just fun to see family again.
Have a great weekend!

I really enjoy Canadian thanksgiving... much more casual that the US version! Just came back from a dinner party featuring the traditional Thanksgiving repast of pizza and beer. Saturday and Sunday we have more get-togethers to attend, and on Monday just a quiet dinner with Kara, myself and a couple of bottles of Malbec and Amarone. Happy weekend to y'all!
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

You sent that sh*t out here! I just had to drive to pick up my aunt at Toronto Airport in the worst rainstorm I've seen this year. :veryangry:

:P Happy Thanksgiving, sue and the rest of my fellow Canadians, eh!

happy thanksgiving all you Canadians.. i almost had a heart attack, thinking i had simply skipped a couple of months there. Do you have traditions - like turkey, cranberries and dressing?

I think we're similar apple, just on a smaller scale. Less food but similar food. But there seem to be cultural additions, perogies for instance where I am for Ukrainian, Polish folk. We're rogue though. I'm sick of turkey. Thus the beef.

My least favorite dinner of the year is Thanksgiving. Predictable, stale. I don't like to cook it and I don't like to eat it. We should have a different main course or theme every year. Maybe this year the US should be thankful for the French for helping us beat England, or maybe for the Italians for their fine automobiles.

Happy thanksgiving, my Canadian friends.

I just learned a couple days ago that the America-Canada border is the longest undefended border in the world.

I don't want to get too sentimental, but I probably don't say it enough. Thanks for not initiating or participating in an armed insurrection against the United States.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Will do a marinated and roast beef on the spit here. I'll prepare and start the marinate this afternoon. I have some olive wood for the smoker box as well.

This household is not keen on turkey at any time.

Joyeux jour d'Action de Grâce mes amis, eh!

Oooh .. Yum. Your beef sounds good Renauda. I'm playing it safe with ours .. oven. Just garlic and a Montreal steak rub. I just sampled some ginger whipped cream at Sunterra and think I'll get that and put it on 2 cheapo Sobeys pumpkin pies.

I've 3 silly questions: Auntie likes champagne. We found the bottle she gave us last Christmas. Do I chill this prior to serving it? How long? Will it still taste good after a year?

Another question .. MS?: I have to run 10 miles prior to cooking Thanksgiving dinner. In order to cope with my guests I must preload with alcohol. Given my predicted state of dehydration, how many margaritas can safely I consume so to remain social yet not burn my roast beef? 3, 4, 5? Should I salt my glass? Thanks.

Definitely chill the champagne. So long as wasn't openned a year ago it should still be good. Ideally you ought to have stored it on its side to keep the cork moist.

If you don't finish the bottle you can hang a stainless or silver kitchen spoon in the neck and refrigerate it. It'll stay bubbly for at least the nect 24 hours. Don't ask why this works, it just does.

Thanks Renauda. Wasn't sure. Have never heard of the spoon thing. Do I string it then re-cork or cover the top? I don't understand.

leftover champagne? really? never heard of such a thing.

love to know what you use for a marinade, I'd like to try doing a roast beast like that.

most certainly having turkey here; we all love it. turkey, stuffing, brussels sprouts, yams and fresh cranberry sauce.

tonight I'm making pizza, lots of fresh basil and tomato. I'm attempting a gluten free pizza dough. Is looking very dubious right now.

Yum! Brussels Sprouts. Haven't had those in years. I used to get my kid to eat his by calling them 'little green mars-men'. I'd do them in garlic butter.

Never had gluten free pizza. How's that working out?

No recorking. Just hang the spoon in bottle and refrigerate. I don't why, but it works. A very close Finnish friend told us about it.

Great weather here in my part of Toronto.
The storm was terrible in Hamilton, Burlington, and Oakville. It wasn't as bad in Mississauga, but it was still raining the whole ride, and was raining at the airport. Weird if in another part of Toronto you missed the storm/rain completely!

Weather today: no rain, but pretty chilly out. Crappy end to a very warm week.

Real treat for us, this time of year. Actually have water restrictions, which is crazy for October.
