Didn't we have a discussion a while ago about how much money PBS actually gets from the government? I think the final result was less than 10%.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Speaking of PBS, Jim Lehrer didn't do that well last night, IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't invite him back in 2016. He's done enough of these I'd say.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Romney did walk all over him, and I found that irritating.

He looked old and tired. Well, he is 78 years old.

It was also a different format that gave the candidates more leeway. Wrangling these guys cannot be an easy task.

PBS Thingie.
Remember when that exec got fired from PBS year or so ago?
I seem to remember that PBs at that time said they really no longer needed money from the Govt. I can't remember the details but remember a few Pols. at that time said how come we still give it to them? It seem to have gone away.

Er, not RLY:

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/cspg/smartpolitics/2012/10/romney_makes_the_most_of_his_4.php

Quote:

Romney Makes the Most of His 47 Percent (Allotted Speaking Time)

The president receives more than 4 minutes more face time than Romney during the CBS debate, or a 12 percent greater amount than the GOP nominee

In a debate in which both candidates were supposed to receive equal speaking time, President Barack Obama was given 12 percent more airtime Wednesday evening at the first presidential debate at the University of Denver in Colorado.

Obama spoke for 42 minutes and 40 seconds or 52.7 percent of the candidate-allotted speaking time.

And while Romney at times appeared to interrupt moderator Jim Lehrer, perhaps he did so for good reason.

A Smart Politics analysis finds that Mitt Romney spoke for 38 minutes and 14 seconds, or 47.3 percent of the candidate-allotted speaking time - a full four minutes and 26 seconds less than Barack Obama.

During the Republican primary debates, Romney frequently was given the most speaking time - doing so in 11 of the last 16 such debates held over the last five months of the campaign.

With largely negative reviews coming in grading his performance, the president seemingly did not benefit from the extra stage time he received Wednesday evening.

Obama gave answers of more than two minutes in length on 13 occasions, compared to just eight times for Romney.

The president spoke for more than two and a half minutes six times with Romney doing so just twice.

Lehrer, meanwhile, seemed to disappear and at times lose control of the debate - speaking significantly less than debate moderators from the GOP primaries this cycle.

Lehrer spoke for just 8 minutes and 10 seconds, or 9 percent of the total time between himself and the two nominees.

During the GOP presidential primary debates, moderators spoke for an average of twice that amount (19.8 percent) ranging from a high of 27 percent to a low of 14 percent.

I liked that Lehrer didn't run his mouth so much. He let both partcipants respond to their opponents when other moderators would have muscled them into the next question. I found that refreshing.

The biggest mistake Obama keeps making is this "doubling down on what got us into this mess". He's the incumbent now. Electing him would be in effect doubling down.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

As Mik pointed out, for a guy that wants to move "Forward!", he sure keeps referring to Bush and Clinton a lot.

I thought both debaters were lacklustre.

While most of what they debated was of marginal concern to me (although how the US deals with its health care insurance could have an impact on the future of our health care insurance and delivery) , I am pretty certain that either one of them in the White House would be beneficial to the continued growth of the Alberta energy industry and ecomony.

Bob Woodward says something was distracting Obama.

Bob Woodward, America’s preeminent investigative reporter and non-fiction author, joined Brian Kilmeade on Kilmeade and Friends this morning and suspected that something happened in President Obama’s presidential or personal life that distracted him during last night’s debate. Woodward goes on to suggest this “something” could be in foreign affairs with an intelligence report and predicts that as the onion gets peeled we will find out what happened.

i dont know, seems to me people are fishing to put a positive light on a mediocre performance. even making it spicy by implying a grave national security issue....
i think he was just not focused, and he has a dry not warm personality, which cant be faked spontaneously. professorial yes, charismatic a la reagan or clinton, not in the least.
