Freeman: 'First black president hasn't arisen yet'

Upon Barack Obama's inauguration, many Americans took pride in their country having elected their first black president, seeing it as a tangible sign of progress in overcoming the country’s racial history. Enter Morgan Freeman, here to burst that bubble and inform us that America has yet to see its first black president.

The Oscar-winning actor explained what he meant, speaking to NPR:

“First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him … they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America,” Freeman said. “There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

We've already had America's first Hollywood "actor" President. That should be enough to warn us not to take any bloody notice of those buggers.

Morgan Freeman has a point. White mother, father from Kenya, raised in white middle class environment, Columbia, Harvard. Barack Obama has very little in common with the average African-American.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Or the average white guy, for that matter.

Or the averaged mixed race guy.

Maybe we should just call him The One.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Does anyone really believe with his credentials and experience
he could have been elected if he was not perceived to be black?
Not to mention getting into the schools he attended.

He wants a saxophone playing guy from a poor broken home in Arkansas who tries to nail everything with a pulse?

Maybe Toni Morrison was right.
